Cable release suitable for my Canon film camera

I might be tempted by the longer one that's shown lower in that listing - you can use a long one close to the camera but it's harder to use a short one at a longer distance!

For long distances you can use an air release, it has a bulb on the end of the cable and you just squeeze it which operates the plunger on the shutter button.

It should be - the majority of film cameras use a standardised threaded release. I never had a Canon AV1 but have used AE1, FTB, T70, and T90, which all used that type of release.
AH Kevin you must have forgotten that the T70 and T90 use an electrical cable to release the shutter.

At my age memory is just a distant memory!
Thanks for the replies, I'll mull over the options although I won't be standing any distance away from the tripod.
It's just to counter my innate age related wobble when doing longish exposures.
I used to use the air shutter release cable a lot (one upon a time) when you want to be in picture with a partner of a group...more accurate when you say "at the count of 3 put on your best smile". Of course if you liked to guess when the camera's timer decides to fire the shutter, you wouldn't want a cable.

I bought an old air shutter release a few years ago for my C3. The release is about 20ft long. I use it for exactly the same purpose of group shots with me in it. It drives the family nuts when I'm "faffing" - they are all digital heathens :) Of course their disdain makes me do this even more!!

I've used an air release on a couple of Mamiyaflexes and found that you have to be very, very positive pressing the bulb otherwise its possible to defeat the shutter release/wind-on lock. Never had that problem with any other cameras or lenses.

I used an AV-1 as my main camera for most of twenty years and yes, that looks like the right kind of cable

Simple and direct operation with aperture priority, I much prefer it to the AE-1

When I went back to 35mm from MF after about 20 years, I decided to see what I missed esp when they were going for peanuts and the AV-1 was one of my first cameras and indirectly can use it on manual, it took some VG difficult shots (e.g. sunset).......my AV-1 has an accurate exposure meter and now use it for checking other cameras.
It amazes me people paying silly prices for the Canon "A" series cameras when a T70 is so superior (not the A-1 for what it can do), I can only think that buyers want a film camera to look like a film camera and rather be seen with a AE-1 than a T70  :$
Just to add:- if you can get a working T90 it's so superior to a A-1.
