I'm upgrading my Camera today and still can't make my mind up D7000 or 3200 Nikon any thoughts !

If you have the cash, the D7000 by a country mile! Better built, better features, better AF, MUCH better handling and manual control, better dynamic range, and better high ISO performance. If on a tighter budget, the D3200 is good though.. just a bit plasticky, and only one command dial.

If you need large prints, the D3200 is 24MP, so that's something you need to consider too. It's not a deal breaker unless you print big though.

Why just them 2 models? You could have the d5100 for half the price of the d7000 with the same image sensor. The d7000 is still a better camera however.

There is more to having extra mp than just printing large. You have much more scope for cropping so can use it to give you more range from a lens. Crop an image in half you have affectively doubled your focal length and still have a more than adequate 12mp prints.

So would you suggest the D3200 then ...I am upgrading from D40 and want to make sure I get the best camera and not to have to upgrade for a few years....

You will be magnifying lens defects by a factor of 2x though.. it's not as clear cut as you think. Sometimes you have no choice if you don't have a long enough lens, but it's not something I'd PLAN for when purchasing a camera.

The D5100 also has the same cheap plastic construction and one command dial manual operation of the D3200 though, but is only 16MP. 16MP is absolutely fine, but if you're going for a lower end Nikon to save cash I'd be tempted to get the 3200.

My money would be on a D7000 though.

No i'm not suggesting anything. You need to read up on them and decide what you want.

Great thanks I have always liked the D7000 so I shall go with that one with some new lenses

Yes the d7000 is a better camera i'm not saying otherwise, just informing them that it has the same sensor for half the price. They can make an informed decision on what's important to them. As for the cheap plastic construction i think it doesn't feel cheap not like canon models and the d7000 is half plastic too. I for one prefer a small lighter body however i would like some more function buttons.
