Hi chaps, I would like your opinions on a lighting set up within my budget. I don't really do stuff against a backdrop but I have a friend who does some dancing and wants some piccies taking. Obviously being the kind hearted soul I agreed but I could do with some help in sorting the right equipment out.

The idea is to take some pics in her dancing studio first, but then some pictures against a backdrop etc.

I only have a Metz flashgun and have a budget of £100 to expand. I have a bit of space in my dads art studio that I can set up a backdrop and any other lighting I acquire.

I don't know if this has been asked before but could you post an aerial view of your room as to how you have set your lights etc up? Like just draw one on paint or something so I get a better idea as to how I should set it up?

Also for my budget what am I looking at getting as a priority?
I do intend on taking more pictures with the backdrop and any equipment I buy so it won't just be a one off thing.

Kind Regards and thank you all in advance.

Ben

If only a £100 I would get a reflective brolly, light stand, flash bracket to take brolly and fit to stand and another flash Yongnuo 560.
Oh and some cheap triggers

Hi Ben
First thing that came to my mind was a radio trigger to fire the flash off camera, and then a large white reflector. If you intend to shoot through a brolly it must be placed close to the model especially if the flash has a low power output. Try having the flash above head hight facing down towards model in a three quarter on position, then use a reflector low down on the opposite side facing up to fill in harsh shadow. But there are no rules to this and the fun is the experimenting as far as i,m concerned.
I use flash triggers by hahnel ,,50 pound. I actually prefer using 1 flash specially if the model is moving about and bounce the light of a reflector, anything white will do, and you can then do this with flash on camera.
hope this helps.
Chris
