Hi

I need about 5 decent quality camera kits for a week in the summer, looking at the 550d.

Would i be barmy in purchasing 5 then selling them afterwards as a cheaper alternative to hire?

Only if you buy at the right price, then all you will lose is the postage costs.

I'm not worried in getting 100% back, but to hire a body would be £200inc vat for a week, and that'd be nearly a grand, and i'm sure the hit i'd take wouldnt be that great.

Each camera would probably have 1k impressions on it over the course of the week.

What body are you looking at?

Ignore just seen 550d, are you looking at buying brand new kit or used?

Personally I'd buy and sell on. So long as the cameras are in A1 condition and all the accessories are unopened then you would probably only lose £100 per camera. It might be worth going into your local camera shop and asking for a bulk purchase discount too.

Not massively fussed really, new would probably be easier for the invoicing and the fact i could get 5 together but other than that no preference.

I often buy used lenses to try them out. I rarely lose and sometimes even make a few quid.

I would speak to someone like Kerso, see if they could do a bulk deal.

And I would be advertising them for sale before you had finished using them, so you were without the money for as little time as possible.

You could look at using second hand kits, but you would then have to source 5 identical kits.

The other thing to do would be to contact the press departments at the camera manufacturers and see if they could let you have some demo cameras for a week. I'm sure someone on here has the right contacts, see if you could essentially get them to spnsor the event - you are a registered charity after all.

Good luck!
