Hi there

I'm wanting to buy BP-511A batteries for my Canon.

I've decided it's best to buy Canon-only but I'd obviously like to get them at the best price I can.

I've looked on eBay and see these two listings:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-C...es_Chargers&hash=item3a6b74e77a#ht_1952wt_952

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Canon-Gen..._Batteries&hash=item45fc0fec7e#ht_2691wt_1152

Is buying from these sources generally considered safe, or should I be buying from somewhere more 'reputable'?

And, if so, where?

I'm not in any hurry so don't mind ordering from overseas is that's a cheaper option...

Thanks for any pointers.

Are you suggesting non-Canon branded?

Sorry, but as stated earlier - and for a number of reasons - I'd like to get Canon only.

I wouldn't bother trying to buy anything "genuine" unless it was a reputable store that carefully sources where it gets its stock from. I've had a "genuine" canon battery passed down to me which was unusable within a couple of months, turned out to be fake (contacts and label different)

Buy some 3rd party ones from a UK seller so you'll have some warranty (that won't cost a fortune to return to should you need to) and the money saved will offset having to buy new ones sooner should it be needed.

Thanks. I was looking for BP-511A. Is BP-514 essentially the same thing?

I'm guessing it can't be as I can rarely find the former for less than £30...

which camera you got as the BP-514 Ive got fits in my 40d.

As to the difference well erm its just the physical size they both have the same charge at 7.4v and 1390mAh.

Mine's the 50D.

So this battery is smaller but still fits inside, is that right?

Is there a disadvantage? It seems like a huge price difference...

No its the same size same foot print, the only difference is the shape of the outside ones flat one has a m no disadvantage some guys getting rid of some for silly cheap.

Oh and they'll fit a 50d

Duracell makes good BP-511A. I've got a couple for my 50D off amazon, they work perfectly.

I didn't want to buy some no-name rubbish or pay stupid money for original canon units, so Duracell work for me - reputale manufactureer, good quality and price (~£10)

Thanks, daza... I bought them both.

I still don't quite understand why people would sell them that cheap. Surely they'd be better of auctioning them than having such a low BIN.

I have no idea but there 100% new in packaging and seem 100% legit as they match the marking font on my other battery's.

Oh and you got them cheaper than me as they went down 50p after I bought 4.

I'd rather buy a 3rd party battery from a reputable supplier than a very very cheap original from an ebuy seller. I've been using 7day batteries for eight years now without a problem :)

I honestly don't see a problem with them all 4 have been working fine they all hold charge I can only presume they are ex shop stock or something.

They might be 100% legit and you've got a bargain  but I'd rather be able to blame a recognised shop for my camera going up in smoke.

Just my opinion etc, hope they give you no problems at all

The energizer ones are also very good. They hold their charge for ages.

I've got a 500D with a battery grip and the grip has 2 LP-E5 batteries from Phottix in it. They're fantastic, not a bad word can be said about them.

As has been said save yourself some money and buy from 7 Dayshop, there are nothing but good reports about them on all forums, I use them on a 40d I have and they last longer than the Canon OEM batteries.

I grabbed four and they are all genuine (holo stickers packaging ect) and work fine.

Just thought I would add a warning here, some of the Chinese counterfeiters are actually producing counterfeit products with the hologram and identical OEM packaging now. Some of the counterfeits are so good (in appearance) that they have to be disassembled before they can be verified as genuine, it's only the poor quality cells and lack of charge protection that give them away.

Buying from eBay, a buyer now has more chance of getting a counterfeit than an original for any OEM battery bought.

I picked up 2 energise batteries that have been Canon approved and work with the canon charger, they work just as long and charge just as quick for half the price. Used it for over a year now and haven't had a single problem wit it.

And a lot cheaper!

Bought mine from Priemier ink for my 5dmk2, no problems and good price.
