Simplyelectronics or digigoods? Which of the 2 is the safest.

Digigoods seem to rule ebay at the mo

Simply i heard good and bad stories

any experiences pls?

Have you PM'd Kerso in the advertisers thread, see what his prices are and you will also get a full UK warranty.

I got mine from HDEW cameras for £950. They must be grey imports but it came with a 3 year warranty. No complaints about the service either.

Photodirect do them for £945 on the bay and they have a lot of satisfied customers.
Digitalrev also do them, although they would probably ship from HK even though they state in the UK.
BUT, for a £100 or so more I would just buy from a reputable shop, at least you have better protection, Currys are doing them for £1081

Just picked my 7D + grip from their offices today. They were the cheapest I could find in the UK

Currys are doing them for £1081

but no stock ....

Love my 7D so glad I made the jump up to one from my 450D... Big and heavy, but a lovely stable platform...

funny you should bring this up as I'm looking at exactly the same thing, and I am struggling to work out a few things, I think it's worth PM'ing Kerso based on this or asking him to drop in on the thread,

I'm more concerned with warranty return and insurance, I've had so many issues with my 30 and 40d canon's that I'm half tempted to sell all of my gear and move to Nikon or even Sony (i.e. my current 40d has decided to kill it's light meter and also has huge soft focus issues on a lens that really shouldn't have them and it's only a year and a half old)

If I can return it under a standard UK warrantee then great, if I can insure it as well, that's brilliant too, and I've heard mixed reports about digitalRev and B&W because they class as grey imports (at least, that's what I've heard)....

I'll ping a message to Kerso now and see if he want's to add something to this thread, and in the meantime I'll keep digging, if anyone wants to shoot me down and tell me that I'm completely wrong by all means do it! I'd be more than happy for the right answer :)

Edit: For the record, I've got no problem with any of the shops mentioned, and I've heard some pretty incredible customer stories from DigitalRev and the like all of which have been positive, I'm just a nervous person who hates spending money and then hates to get bitten on the backside later if I need to make an insurance or warranty claim Actually if anyones curious, I'm with E&L.

Just dropped a message to him now, but thanks for letting me know!

My main concern is, is he importing them or are they UK items, with warranty and chiefly, would I be able to insure them!

US items, with a UK receipt which seem to be OK as far as Canon go for warranty. All shipped from the UK, so no tax issues. I'm buying a bundle from him at the moment and he's cheaper than the UK usual suspects (who I would have dealt with had they moved a bit on price).

Insuring them? Why would that be a problem (or are you talking about 3->5 year guarantees from the usual suspects).

The one thing I don't understand is why HDEW can't offer the same UK receipt/UK warranty that Kerso seems to be able to.......

I assume by him, you're referring to Kerso?

As for insuring, I've heard a few horror stories about the likes of e&l not honouring insurance claims for what 'they' consider to be grey imports , i.e. without a UK receipt, plus there's the worldwide warranty as I may well find myself out in another country at some stage.

Yup. Not worried by insurance, I'll cover on my home insurance and have a UK receipt.

Ah, problem for me is I don't have home insurance that will cover, and I use the thing internationally and professionally....

I got in contact with photodirect recently. if you order over the phone they can knock £10 off if you ask them nicely

Well that serves you right for being a jetsetting pro 'tog with a hovel to live in. Me, I've a nice house but hardly ever leave it - I'll leave you to decide which is the more glamorous ;) :D

LOL

I wouldn't consider myself a pro... now if they PAID me more!

Nice work on the QR code for your name btw and apologies to P-Chan for somewhat hijacking the thread

hehe never mind longmile... went digigood anyway... found that i have bought a couple lenses back then and was happy with them and with the ammount of good feedback he has on ebay it would be a b****r if i get bitten... also me being a non british the fct that its coming from the US and the fact i have relaiable relatives there its really no biggie.

Now just biting my nails to when my new baby is coming :)

Hi Guys, I have been asked to join this thread but to be honest its too long winded so I will just e-mail you "thelongmile" with info you need. The 7D I sell come with Canon USA warranty valid in EU with UK invoice provided. I have never had a problem with Canon in UK. Hope this answers the enquiry!

Kerso is an absolute gent to deal with ...quick turnaround and a top-class service. The 7D is a great camera and I would recommend it to anyone...8 frames per sec. and I use it as a back-up for my MK 111's.

Hi All

I think the devil is in the details ~ reading something on the HDEW website makes me think they are in effect acting as import agents for personal importation. Whereas based on what Ian says by providing a UK invoice i.e. purchased in the UK a none issue even though bodies appear to be treated as market specific for warranty purposes by Canon. Unless Canon have a database of the original market delivered to based on serial number why would there be a problem??? But as Ian says he has not had a problem with Canonon bodies he sells I surmise unless Canon throw a wobbly one day this is a no brainer :)

Just a minor question, for those who have bought the 7D from him does it come with the UK plug on the mains lead???
