Out of intererest, what are the financial costs of running the site?

I know the biggest non-financial cost is the time volunteered by all the admins and volunteers of course, for which thanks!

Basically three things:

Cost of hosting (bandwidth, disc space, hardware to run it on - the more popular you are the more it costs - annual cost
Domain name - without it you're invisible - annual cost
Forum software - it may be free, more likely it has an annual cost

Sorry, we don't choose to share that info.
The figure mentioned by Cobra originally in the BMAC site (£900) has been updated slightly since his demise, but was intended to cover the gap between advertising income and approximate hosting-only. It costs a good amount more than that to run TP.

Things that Jason missed out/wasn't sure of
- software licences
- various security-related costs and domain protections
- ICO registration
- accountancy costs (kept to a minimum as I do it myself)
- annual HMRC & Co House returns costs (software costs but would be more if I didn't do the number crunching myself)
- corporation tax

plus we try to squirrel some away as a reserve to cover all the costs for a number of future years in case all income dries up. Hence we can say that the site (at present) is safe for at least 5 years into the future, financially.

As an aside, the effort involved probably comes to easily 10-15 hours a week excluding the many hours the moderators put in, which are absolutely essential these days on a site like this. Then there's the stress involved when the occasional person decides to threaten legal proceedings over a post they don't like - we've had two in the last year that I can think of which required some hours of mediation and faffing around with threads and posts etc to resolve when we owners were directly threatened.

It's been noted Allen, many thanks, but I'm a bit pushed at present to look through the BMAC site to check - maybe later today and I'll PM you. Suffice to say we are really grateful for every donation as and when people feel; inclined.

Is there any difference in donation method in terms of fees you pay? IE. Do you have a preferred method of donation?
