Yes
I saw my first butterfly today! January.....That's not usual.

Can't tell you exactly what it was....although it was one of these three:
Red Admiral...Tortoishell.... Peacock.

Seems May to October is the usual time!

You weren't in Butterfly World by any chance Janice? ;)

Butterflies hibernate over the cold winter months , it must have gone out to stretch its wings as it was so mild :)

Yes I guess so. It was flying about all over the garden.

This week took photos of passion flower, rose open that was a "frost" picture posted a week or so back, the first snowdrops, helibores and jasmine. Pansies, polyanthus and the quince are all out which is more normal. B.... grass needs cutting if I can find the waders!

Apparently most butterflies hibernate in the larva or pupa stage of development with only a few hibernating once they've become adults. One of the few that do though is the Tortoise shell....guess that makes it your number 1 suspect :D
