Hi There, This is my first post so i apologise if its in the wrong place. I enjoy taking pics like above. I have a 60mm Nikon Macro lens but i find i get too close to the subjects. I therefore use for my shot a Nikon D90 with a Sigma 70-300 APO DG which lets me zoom in in macro mode from half a metre away. I find however cyan lines in the image when viewed at 100% (Chromatic Aberration?). I dont think i can spring for a Sigma 150mm Macro at the moment, which is probably what i really want but can anybody suggest a lens that will capture these type of images with better image quality than my zoom?
thanks
Mike

Lovely photo Mike. I like taking photos of butterflies too ;) Welcome to TP.

I have the 150, its awesome. The photo you have there is fantastic mind. The one downside with macro photography is normally you will end up with a very shallow depth of field, and the slightest movement will render the object out of focus. Have you thought about the Sigma 105?

hi mike
did you take the pics at the butterfly farm at dobbies ??

Hi there, this shot was taken at arthur seat in the queens park. I have been to butterfly world at dobbies but never got a successful image.
Thanks for the pointer on the sigma 105mm

Mike

Lovely lovely photo. The first macro I used was a friends 60mm, and found it near on impossible to capture butterflies. When I bought my own macro I went with a 105mm and found I had a much better working distance....

I don't know where your located (on phone) but if your close to me your welcome to try my 105. If your not close then go along to a local meet and mention in the thread you would like to try different macro lenses and I'm sure people will bring theirs along for you to play with on the day..
