Do people still use business cards? Or in these modern tech times, would it be the norm to forward an inquirer your mobile number?
As a scenario, if talking to someone on the street for example, and the talk got around to what you did as an occupation.

Someone I know, is doing a new start up. Talk got around business cards, and some were thinking they were a waste, as you would simply swap numbers, or give your mobile, instead of a business card.

PS

I know this probably should have been posted in the business section, but I thought it would get a wider viewing here.

Dunno.

When I started my last job they gave me a load of cards which had my name on a little label placed over the name of the last guy. Needless to say I never gave any of them out. Cheap b-ards.

Get one of those fancy new metal business cards that when you hold it next to someones phone - it loads the details in automatically and stores your name and number.

Thanks that does look good... (y):giggle:(y)

I never use my photography ones. If I was still doing the job I was doing 5 years ago I would (sales) so it depends what line of work that person is in.

I use mine as small adverts rather than actual business card.. hand them out willy nilly all the time :)

Depends a bit on what you're doing?
I have boxes of business cards for my current job (business consulting) and I don't think I've ever handed one over except when I wanted to share my details as a witness to a fender bender in a car park.

If you're in a more creative space then they might be worth doing as long as they're genuinely something someone would want to hold onto.
Friends in graphics and web design used to use these with a different image on each card, but I don't know if they do now.

If you want to someone to remember you after a chance meeting then something with utility is probably a better use of money.
We used to give out pens in an old job which because they were nicer than the BICs the companies provided, our customers used to ask for at meetings. You gradually saw them filtering past our contacts to other people in their teams all with our web address on them.
I still have pencils, pens and rulers from suppliers on my desk even though I haven't used them for years, So if I need them again I have their name right in front of me.

Health beauty and hair etc. When or if, the conversation gets around to, " and what do you do?" Just hand them a business card, or modern take would be to show an electronic business card, as mentioned above.

I've just retired to start a photography project on Landscape Photography that will inevitably involve photographing peoples houses (Dartmoor Farms etc) so I had some cards made with my details and social media etc so that if people ask me why I am photographing it gives some legitimacy to me when I am happy to give a card out. I've not had to use them in that way yet but have given several out to interested parties who want to look my work up. As an older gentleman I don't often get approached by folk who want to tap phones together or similar particularly as I am in the outdoors often in less than ideal weather. Cards work for me.

Good idea that.

Just thinking is it really worth getting business cards printed up, or would electronic cards suffice?
Still pondering if they will or not.

Depends to some extent on the type of business and the target customer. A podiatrist aiming at the elderly would probably benefit more from business cards than a software engineer dealing with IT departments.

It might be worth having both, and shouldn't cost a great deal extra. Cards are foolproof, and don't rely on other people carrying a smartphone.

I still have cards, and mine are very simple. They just show my name, an email address, and my UK and SA cellphone numbers on good quality white card with black print.

As already mentioned above, " Health beauty and hair etc".

Just I have not seen business cards passed around, in a very long time.

Vistaprint do good quality business cards for very little money.
Quick service and used them for many years without complaint.
I have no affiliation with the company.

Just had a quick look at vista print. 100 cards @ £12.57 plus vat :-)

A quick look on Amazon, and 500 business cards can be had for £17 all in.

Thanks...

Got a few ideas lined up, will be sorting the artwork out soon. :)
