OK fellow northerners, I have to take some kids to Bury on Sunday for a training session, which will give me about 3 hours to kill between driving to and from London. Any suggestions on somewhere to go with the camera? Would prefer some scenery rather than 'street' or architecture, will have the car so as long as not too far away, all ideas [together with some ideas of directions] would be welcomed. I do not fancy sitting around a dojo full of sweaty teenagers for 3 hours, need some fresh air.

Go visit Marcel for a nice cuppa ;) he is only down the road

scout moor is not far away and has about 12 huge wind turbines on top, along with fantastic views over the surrounding area. peel tower also over looks the area and is a brisk walk up for great views

also some smaller nature places such as Burrs country park, and jumbles country park not too far away for birds etc

all places on the internet to get directions, postcodes etc

Burrs and Jumbles country park are OK.

You could go to Holcombe, which has Holcombe Hill (with Peel Tower on the top)....
If its the same Dojo you told me about, it's literally 5 mins drive up that road ;)
You can park and walk to the top (bout 20 mins liesurely walk, or 5 minutes at a fair pace) to the tower and have a lovely view over Bury and Rochdale.

Are views from the there (I dont seem to have any daylight ones to hand!)

You're welcome to pop in for a cuppa if you want :) Kettles always on!

Burrs Country park has some interesting stuff to shoot such as the old mill equipment and remains of the mill itself, there is also the kayaking / canoeing water sports stuff for some action shots and of course the wildlife and river with some nice weirs etc :)

The East Lancs Railway runs from Bury Town centre up the Irwell valley via Burrs, Summerseat, Irwell Vale to Rawtenstall approx 6-7 miles. If you can't find something to shoot there you might as well give up.

Cheers Paul
