Yes
I have exactly the same shot and when I saw it on my phone I was convinced it was mine - until I turned on the laptop and saw the PA logo.

Why is there no crying smily...

PA guy was 3 feet to the left. Boo hoo

I feel your pain, Rob. When faced with the prospect of a lot of photographers, and hence all getting the same shot, it's easy to say go somewhere where there ain't anybody else, but there's only so many places to go to get the chance of decent shots. The papers want goals and celes and that's it.

The same happened to me last week at Watford. I got a good shot of Lewis McGugan's muted celebration after scoring against his old club. The Mail went with the same shot from one of the "big boys" sat next to me :bonk:

I can't sit anywhere else at Watford as we are all restricted to one side of the pitch and between the goal line and 18 yard line

Aye, Watford is and was gash last week. Of the shots the MOL used I had similar if 'better' shots but they went with the usual suspects.

I tend to try and stay away from matches where there may be loads of photographers. Watford was a rare one as i was free that Sunday, should have known the rest of the world would be too!

Not ready to yet Gary :D

One thing ive learnt from footy, wait till everyones sat down till you get your spot.

Poor you, Rob! I've often wondered when watching Prem League matches and all the photographers are jammed into a tiny area that they are all likely to get the same shot. Is it a question of who gets their pics wired quickest? Seems like a nightmare, jostlying elbow to elbow with other 400mm lenses and monopods. Do you need big muscles to get in there first?

I had thought about the other side of the goal. The TGS guy got a cracker of Morris on scoring and got lots if usage from it.

Does that really work?

I think the photos in this thread have just confirmed it!
Its the most frustraiting thing ever, getting a really good goal or cele and finding out 2-3 others have the same as well.
Whats the use in having the same images as others?
Sometimes its hard to get away from the crowd.

Id rather take my chance backing the underdog where no snappers are with a possible big payout if they score.

the flip side is... when you get published and all the people around you dont ? so its your pic everyones looking at thinking its theres..

personally i would rather stay away from big games with wall to wall photogrpahers... there was 50 (fifty!) photogrpahers at the man city v man utd match... i got published in my local as i knew i would.. but no chance of making money.. all the papers would ahve commisioned for the game so the chances of anyhting spec is next to 0

on saturday i did accrington v burton league.. bit of a non descript game... i was shooting for 4 papers.. burton mail (they have a slideshow of my pics online) derby telegraph, lancashire telegraph and accrington observer.... i have a pic at mailonline and yet to check the nationals.... if i was at liverpool v man utd..probably nothing published..

people seem to think big game = good... I can make more money at a sunday cup final on local parks then a lot of people make at man utd hoping for a good shot and beating all the agencies ..

i find for indipendants like me.. bigger game = less money... smaller game = more money

a low down league 2 game

I think its good to sit down last if you can like said. sometimes it pays off to be in a worse position but atleast your away from others so you get a different angle. worked for me in the past.

Ive also had it, where i sat down first in a decent spot, just before kick off, someone from getty rocks up next to me. Next day about 5 different frames were used across the nationals, exactly the same as mine, but they were all getty's obviously. thats how it goes sometimes!
