Happy New Year everyone!! Looking forward to this year, loving my big camera and loving photography at the moment! I started the year with a win - first proper go at bird photography at a little nature reserve bird hide, and a real challenge with my only telephoto lens - a fungusy Tamron 80-210mm film lens to help me improve my manual focus skills. Really pleased with how they came out, as long as you avoid any zoomed-in pixel peeping!

Anyways, my Week 1 - Food submission aims bring to mind the post-Christmas gloom, the lingering viruses and the resolve to be a healthier version of yourself than you were the year before.... and perhaps the guilt of breaking resolutions before the middle of the month?!

Week 2 - Cold... all camera phone pics I'm afraid. The last three (the final of which is my entry for this week) is a large forzen puddle on a local walkway, which looked to me like a river running through wetlands and a snow-covered forest viewed from the air! I've included a picture of an adjacent puddle with my feet in shot for perspective.

Love the ice bubble shots. All really good

Week 1 is good I like the inclusion of the medicinal item.
Your entry for cold is quite abstract, Its good.

I really like your cold image - very nicely seen and composed.
Food - on theme and a reminder to me of what I should be eating :)

Not sure the Jakemans are healthy food ;) Good stuff though.
OCD me is drawn to the empty socket that has the power turned on...

I do like the cold photo. It makes me wonder how it formed like that.

Love the abstract cold shot!

Great shots for both themes Ross, hard to choose between them all.

Wow, just caught up with everyone's submissions over the last few weeks... some amazing content and inspiration to keep reaching for the camera!! :)

So week 3 - Graffiti - Being late to the party I've realised a skatepark wasn't a very original choice - but I did wait for a nice morning and grabbed a few morning light shots too..

Having said that, first shot was a camerphone grab from a community garden near St Pancras station - the irony of the message underneath the barbed wire seems very appropriate at the moment...

The rest are from the local skatepark with my Nikkor 50mm 1.4 which, in good light, I'm really enjoying and amazed by considering it's age

Nice selection there!

Great set Ross. I really like your chosen shot but the first image, just because of the irony, would have made an excellent choice as well.

I really liked the third image, just because it took me a little while to understand what I was seeing.

Nicely done - I like them all.

Thank you! I inverted the 3rd image as I thought it made it more interesting, and made the graffiti 'right way up' so glad you appreciated it!
Great set!

Thanks all!!

Week 4 - Morning light - a couple borrowed from my skatepark visit and a couple from the local stables last Sunday - the weather was glorious!!

I was really enjoying the long shadows and sharp lines in these two picutres

Been waiting to get some horse breath on camera and I think this works ok - he's not particularly in focus but I love the backlighting so thought it better suited this theme

Bit abstract - some morning light-lit hay dust!

A good set Ross. I might have gone with the horse (even if the focus was soft). I think that you were right in that the horses' breath highlights the light. I also like the rim light around his chin.

I like the composition of your chosen shot - but the horse is just lovely.

Good shadows and light, think the horse shot is a cracker.

Nice set, certainly captured the time of day

Horse for me too its a really nice image.

Good shadows and light, think the horse shot is a cracker.
Thanks everone, really appreciate the feedback. I've been a bit cheeky and posted the horse pic to the main 52 thread, as you all liked it :-)

Those are great. I like the chosen shot but the woodpecker (?) on the photo with no evidence of humanity is just great.

To be honest, I like the all. Any of them would have looked great on the main page.

Morning Light - I think I actually prefer the abstract look of the hay dust lit by the morning light tbh. Just a personal preference though.
Snappers - No comment on the bird shots as I could only really offer technical comments (wildlife is not my thing). I quite like the bokeh in all of them.

Do you realise you posted shots for the morning light twice? (I'm not giving you two ticks ;) )

Thanks! Yes, it's a greater spotted woodpecker... I was really torn between the two shots and I think the woodpecker on it's own is the better picture ... I chose the other one because I like the 'get off my birdfeeder' expression on both their faces!
Very good set. Hard to choose, but I think your chosen shot just pips it.
Thank you

Thanks - I like that abstract shot too! And not sure how/why I double-posted - sorry about that!!

Week 6 - Silhouettes
Apologies, my chosen shot this week if off of my Samsung S24 Ultra, but it's one of my favourite local trees and I thought the moring light was fantastic - with a bit of editing I think it makes a striking silhouette

Second shot was taken a couple of weeks ago for the 'morning light' theme but I think it works here

And that's all I got - actually I got one of an Alpine chough on holidy which I think is eligible

Week 7 - Through a window
Sorry, another cameraphone pic as away on holiday and don't want to fall behind... I hope I'm not stretching the theme too far either? I love this Bar in the holiday resort we're in - totally immersive decor and atmosphere, which makes the magnificent view of the mountains through the small window quite surreal. I haven't messed with the colours but edited it quite heavily to try and make it a bit over-saturated

20250215_181350 by bullinachinashop, on Flickr

... If I get anything decent with the big camera before the end of the week I'll add it!

Tree shot came out well, no mistaking its an early morning shot. Horse and trees work - maybe a narrow crop of the middle would work.

Bar looks interesting, like the punchy colours though not sure about the colour of mountains through the window. Like the cowhide? on the wall

Phone or not that silhouette is great.

I think the artificial light in the bar has screwed up the mountains (unless the snow where you are really is cyan?!

I think lightroom allows for a selective mask with differing white balance - I'm not sure if it's on the mobile version - but with the automatic selection being so good now that might be an option to even then out?

I like the concept of the photo lots - to me it almost looks like the window is "just" another poster.
