Hi all,

Yesterday I bought a bulk roll of Pan F, listed as 'part used' but upon weighing it next to a box of unopened stuff it was the same weight, so none missing :)

My problem is, that I opened the box and took the roll out of the black packet, expecting to see the tin (I was wondering if it had even been opened) and found myself face-to-face with a full roll of naked film. I hastily put it back in the packet.

Of course, this will have exposed the film on the outer layer - which I can live with - but what I am concerned about is if the rest of the film will have been ruined? Can anyone shed light on this (pun intended)

Thanks
Nick

Shoot a test roll and see? It is so dependent on multiple things - the nature and power of the light source, direction, age of the film... impossible to gauge really.

That is why I could never have bulk film. I know I'd do something like that and ruin the whole lot. I was bad enough with the paper...

You can only give it a go and see how it turns out. You never know. It could actually produce something really interesting!

Well at least it was Pan F, that should give you a better than average chance of not being too fogged.

Discard the outer layers and shoot a test roll? Will you post and let us know how you get on, just in case................:)

Even if it is fogged it should be usable! I had a badly fogged twenty metres of HP5 and it was okay, really. Not nice to print from but scanned okay, just needed a contrast boost. Actually with a high contrast scene it could prove to be somewhat useful to bring it down to normal (ish) levels. All you can do is give it a go, but keep in mind it almost definitely won't be even all the way through the roll.
