I am really finding it hard to like the local press. They have been using last seasons pics which now have the wrong sponsor on the shirt (not my pics, presumably by the staff snapper who is now redundant). Asked if I can provide some up to date pics, fine. As soon as the word 'fee' crops up, the short reply is 'we don't want to buy'. What is a 'reasonable' fee for internet publication of pics for locals? Apparently 539,052 readers, 169,100 listeners and 331,339 unique browsers - none of whom presumably pay to view the website. Presumably the rest of the people working for the publication get paid, so I don't see it as unreasonable to ask for a fee for publication - doh!:bang:

for web use.. for non league football.. would be suprised if you get anyhting.. lots of people will be along saying how you should... but back in the real world.. would be amazed if you did..

So would you advise just to send them a few web size shots?

good grief... you would get me shot for giving advice like that... i would see if I could get anything or make them do without...

but each to there own.. whatever makes you feel right not what makes me feel right :)

Trouble is Carol, papers dont give a crap about anything, you send them in for web use and they will also use in print, web and news stock print both use 72ppi/dpi so anything you send them for the web will print the same size in the paper

Oh well i'll hold out for a fee for a while and see what happens!

Out of principle that they want the shots but aren't willing to pay anything, I'd keep them to myself. But I can be pig headed like that sometimes :-)

Do they have a rival local paper or website? You could write a 'typical joe public' letter of disapproval at the lack of up to date photos of the local team :-)

Just be as tough as they are being Carol, They want them, then they pay ..

theres a group shot of people in my local paper (who now dont use freelancers) and i swear you can not make out anyones faces its that blurred... this is a paper you pay for :(

I presume you mean they use a 'free'lancer than a staff photographer !!

Maybe we should call the newspaper feechancers i.e. if there is a chance they can get it for free, they will.

I wouldn't give them for free, thats the problem why your not being offered anything for them as there is always someone along the way willing to give them for free.

As the club photographer there is only one other with a licence but he doesnt shoot from pitch side. The club would like the press to use current pics so i feel a sort of moral duty to comply but not for free. Perhaps i could suggest they send a photographer along - but would be cheaper to pay me ...

thats the problem.. your loyalty might be wiht the club who need the exposure.. but if you send free pics in then thats one less job for the papers staff photogrpaher. any more of that and no use for staff... but you want to do right by the club..

its a dilema ya probably would have been best not making public as its one of them..dammned if you do.. dammned if you dont ...situations.. hence why i originaly said.. its gotta be what feels right for you..

Carol, my local paper the other week even though they kI cover the home games for my local team and I was at a game of some importance they still sent a staff photographer to take a couple of pictures during game rather than use mine. Which they have stated in the past are suitable!!

No further response from the paper, we'll see. I noticed in the supermarket today that the freebies have fewer and fewer pics in the sports section. One paper I submit to has got rid of its 2 sports editors before Christmas, cut the sports pages from 4 to 2 and the current editor has just sent an email to say he's moving elsewhere. Wonder what the future holds? Are we heading back to the good ol' days before papers started publishing images?

Looked on the papers website and see they have just used old pics cropped to just a head horribly photoshopped to look like a doll. Eugh!
