Hi!

Wonder if you could help a newbie on a very tight budget!! I've 'inherited' a Canon 300D and particularly interested in landscapes. I want to buy a set of ND and grad filters and seem to be pushed towards Kood/Cokin. The Kood kits comes in about 30-40% cheaper so wonder how the two compare as I can only dream about a Lee kit!!

Thanks in advance!

Andy

Not sure about the comparison between the two but I had a load of Cokin filters now and its only the odd occasion that I wish I had something a bit better, mainly when I am trying to shoot at odd angles into the sun and you end up with reflections of the lens in the corners etc, but for landscapes etc I have found my Cokins to be more than ample for my needs,

I have found Warehouse Express to be pretty good on prices for Cokin filers - http://www.warehouseexpress.com/?/photo/filters/cokin_p.html#pholders - £8 for a holder and £12(ish) for the filters.

Thanks Jimmy - looking around, I'm interested in the comparison against Kood filters as I can get the filter/holder for under £10 and the filters themselves are around £7 so with 4-6 filters, there's a reasonable saving although if the filters aren't good then there would be litte point!!

Cheers

Indeed if you do a search for previous ND grad filter discussions on TP you will see a plethora of information and advice on COKIN, HITEC (I have these) and the wallet busting but best Lee !!

Thanks Chewy - there is indeed a lot of information and advice although I can find nothing about Kood grad filters (although some post suggesting using Kood holders as they're the same but cheaper). I would still like to know if the Kood's are any good but I guess the silence on that says something and have to say, the Hitec's look a good option.

Cheers!

Don't forget kerso on here. Perhaps drop him a PM asking for prices, I've had several filters from him - delivered with excellent service and support, and will 100% be purchasing additional stuff from him in the future.

Already priced up some lenses etc.

I've bought stuff mail order from Denton Photo Optics before (found them via an ad in Amateur Photographer) got good service and I noticed they had Cokin filters at reasonable prices. The dreaded ebay is another option - I've seen cokin holders and adapter rings cheap on there (bought a couple of adapter rings there myself) and some sellers have new stock cheap.

I bought some ND grads last month. I too was torn between Kood/Cokin - in the end some reviews which said that the Kood filter holder was a poor copy of the Cokin one lead me to pay the few extra quid for the Cokin kit. Happy with it so far.
