Hiya
Just bought a Tamron 18-270 walkabout lens and looking to buy some filters the usual suspects CPL/ND/GND it comes with a UV so thats not needed Im sure the ring size is 72mm if that matters

So can anyone recommend a make/supplier please ideally looking around £10 each but will go higher if people think they really arent worth it at that price (There must be a sliding scale of quality/price) which at some point its not worth it unless you are a pro etc

Cheers
Pete

To be honest, you'll not get anything worth having for those prices. If you want cheap then look at the 7dayshop ones but they ain't great.

At 72mm you'll be looking at spending £60+ each for anything decent.

To be honest with you Pete, that's spot on - and you are on the bottom end of the scale, sadly. Imagine you spent £400 on a lens, so that's £400 for several glass elements, and then spending a tenner for another glass element (i.e. a filter) in front. It's just going to ruin the investment in the lens itself isn't it?

i was hoping that the quality/price scale would get a thumbs up for okish quality sub £20, I know what you are saying about expensive lens cheap filter combo but is the difference like night and day or negligible? (Any good links with pics appreciated)

I have just bought a set of Kood filters at approx £10 each. I can't afford filters at £60 apiece and am working on the theory that a cheap filter is better than no filter. But there again I am using the kit lens on my Nikon! Perhaps if I was using expensive lenses and camera I would have a change of heart!

You can get a kood polariser for about £40, which I use along with a Hoya pro1 which cost £80. I wouldnt bother with ND grads on a round filter. The grad is never in the right place. You'll need a slot in system like Cokin, Hitech or Lee.
Ive just ordered a Hitech 3 soft grad set with holder and a 10 stop for £200 which wasnt too bad.

wow £200...!!! lol its 7 day shop for me for the time being me thinks

I wouldnt.. the polariser is ok although not very well made. but the rest are pointless.

I have a 67mm filter size, and the hoya pro1 UV and CPL were only about £30 from amazon. Seemed much better value than cheap 7dayshop ones.

thanks people i will have a look at the links/places suggested and I will be mindful of the advice
