Hi guys...

Quick one

Firstly who is going to this? and secondly i would really like to go and take some photos as motorsport is something i would like to capture, is there specific requirements for photographers or could i tag along with someone who has a pass or something, hint hint! LOL

Also meant to ask as well would my 600D and 55-250 lens be up to the job to get decent shots?

I doubt anyone with a pass will let you tag along.

However Oulton is a very easy place to get around and in most places you can get very close to the track. Have a look in the Motor Sport section will give you some ideas.

55-200 lens should give you the reach you want to get full car shots.

Not sure if I am going but there is usually a whole host of togs that do go you can find them at Brittens, Hill Top, Knickerbock is not a bad place, Druid's and Lodge corner are aslo good.

There's no "let" its simply not allowed.

From what I've seen, Oulton offers plenty of photo ops for entry paying public though...

I will be going on the Sunday. As other have said it is easy to get close to the track from the spectators area.
You can walk around most of the track to find a good viewpoint.
If you get there early you can walk around the pits which gives some great photo opportunities. Just hoping for good weather as shelter is limited.

I've not been to Oulton but have been to the BTCC at Croft.
On race day it'll be busy. At Croft if you moved during the race or the five minutes preceding the race you weren't going to get a good unobstructed view somewhere else as the fences were lined with people. On the plus side you could involve the crowds in shots and there are three BTCC races so you get three opportunities.

If you've never done any motorsport before it's probably going to be a frustrating experience as you need to try different things to learn what works well and what doesn't but you're going to be stuck in one place for whole races.
You'd be better off going to a much smaller event for practicing or going on the Saturday when it'll be quieter, though if you're looking to photograph a BTCC race specifically it's not much good going on the qualifying day or going to a different event.

The support races (Ginettas, Porsches, Clios, etcetera) were much quieter though, I couldn't work out where everyone disappeared to at Croft but disappear they did so it was much easier to move around during those races.

Have you any suggestions at all for quieter races, where i can get the practise?

Cheers

Quiet? Anything but the two national championships (bsb or btcc) or big international events (f1 or motogp) on race day....

I don't know what Oulton's big events are but what desantnik has said is pretty much true for Croft. It's very busy on BTCC weekend and reasonably busy for the Nostalgia Weekend and the two stage rally events but the rest of the time when it's clubman racing (Croft ones are usually BARC or DDMC with DDMC being a local club) it's much quieter.
I'd imagine anything that's not on a freeview television channel will be quieter than BTCC.

btcc is the biggest national race series, so hardly surprising :-)
