Can't find much on this and now stumped. Within minutes of playing Netflix on the BT Humax box the BT wireless goes down and everyone on their phones and tablets loses connection.

I thought it may be sucking up the bandwidth but the hardwired computers are fine and it's not a case of the wireless connection slowing down but it actually disconnects completely as if it's been turned off.

Has anyone else experienced this or knows what is going on as I can't find a solution?

Thanks

I guess it must be a tough one.

Can you hardwire the humax box? It might be doing something stupid with the wireless.

I have a humax free view box and used Netflix a lot on it and it was fine over a wired connection.

I don't know much about networks, but it sounds like your Humax box is stealing the IP address of your wireless router. I.e. for some reason they have the same address so when it uses Netflix it pushes the router off the network.

Can you assign a (different) static IP to it? (I'm not sure how you would do that on your kit but somebody else here will)

It has a mixture of hardwired and wireless. The BT Humax box is hardwired, as is the Xbox and two computers. The tablets and phones etc are all wireless. I would have expected the wireless to slow down first if Netflix was hogging or something but for it to simply switch off is a little odd. Sometimes it's only the iPad which is affected, yet the Galaxy tablets are fine.

Oh nice, I never thought of that. I was in the router last night looking at everything which has been connected and there was a huge list of unknown devices on top of the genuine ones in the house, although no bandwidth for the unknown ones. A search online shows other people experiencing big lists of unknown devices, I'm not sure what they are.

I deleted everything and then starting connecting each device in the house and naming them in the router so I know what's what. So far everything only named genuine devices are appearing but I did notice that some are using fixed IP addresses (assigned by the router) and others are not. So you could be onto something there, I'll go and assign them all fixed IP's and see what happens.

Thanks all.
