Just a quick warning to everyone about giving BT plenty of advance notice if you are planning on moving house & need a broadband/internet line for when you get there. I have just moved (though you may have gathered that from the beginning of this post) & was assured that the line & broadband would be waiting - it was definately not. They cut me off for a few weeks while they tried to activate my line & the customer service was horrendous (not quite as bad as UPS but it came pretty close). I have since been told that you should give a months notice (at least) even if the house already has an active BT phoneline.

Anyway, rant over & I am finally going to try to find some time to take some photos of Port Sunlight (sounds like a creepy place doesnt it  ) they have a big garden centre here that I'm going to have to investigate too.
P.S. hi to everyone thats joined while I've been away, & happy birthday to all of the people whos birthdays I missed.

I called my ISP (www.zen.co.uk) on the day I moved in. My 8mb line was working within three days.

I am finally going to try to find some time to take some photos of Port Sunlight
Its actually really nice there - used to have family there. Its called Port Sunlight cos thats where the Sunlight soap factory is (or was).

Cheers for the link there GFK, I think I might have to take a look at moving over to them.
Its such a cute little village, it even has its own quiet little black & white tearooms which should be great for photos & a bowling green (a little less fast paced than what I'm used to but nevermind  ).

Glad you finally moved ok. NTL are just as bad - took about 6 weeks to get them to come out and set me up with everything when I moved.

welcome back Mike!

There's far more to consider when arranging utilities for a house move these days than, say, twenty years ago. Not just for broadband but all utilities.

Broadband connections to a newly occupied house have the additional problem of the previous supplier 'holding' the line. Delays due to the absence of a MAC can be considerable. There are moves afoot to change the way broadband suppliers can be switched but I suspect that difficulties will remain for house-movers for some time.

You need to plan the utilities aspect of house-moves in some detail. Including, wherever possible, obtaining the assitance of the outgoing occupants. Collect details of suppliers and supply numbers - in the form of copy bills or other documentation. This isn't always possible but if you don't ask you don't get.

Of course, house moves are far easier if you have just the one supplier for all your utilties. Especially one that has local distributors who can assist and advise you ;)

Cheers for the welcome back everyone, has been really bad not having everyones advice & help - I think we need a TP helpline :p
