Having totally failed to keep up with my 1000 challenge , i thought i'd start again wth something a bit more modest. I'm starting from week 4 (companions), but will aim to catch up weeks 1-3 in due course.

Constructive crit is always welcome

Anyway week 4 : Companions (is above) - taken at South Lakes Zoo today... this is SOOC as i'm currently on a laptop with no editing software (I resized it in paint)

thanks guys - there were a lot of blurred/half jaguars along the way - I was relieved when they went and sat down for a rest (If anyone hasnt been to South Lakes Zoo - near Ulverston - I highly recomend it. Good views of Snow leopard, Siamang Gibbons, Spider monkeys, and some weird thing that looked like the b*****d son of a fox and an otter ...)

Hey there.... Cracking start with this shot! The young ones are so cute! Love the DOF in this one too[emoji4]

thanks ferg - I'd have liked even cleaner Dof , but this was a 150-500 wide open so you get what you get at the end of the day. I was fortunate that they went and sat in a place without a lot of wire and crap in the background.

Looks very orange, was that just the light?

Well captured, nice triangle in the composition and the tongue is a real bonus.

Cheers.

Hi Pete

Very nice capture, perfect DOF.

Jaguars are very orange - plus this was a low angle sunlight shot. That said I think I did have the WB on shade so it might want tweaking down a notch or two (as i mentioned i'm currently oop north without any editing software so this was SOOC), I'lll have a play when i'm back at my home pc

Also thanks everyone for comments ( I think I nailed scenic today at Coniston water - but I'm reallystrugling with elegant)

Fragile - The babbons were sitting on a frozen moat prizing out chunks of ice to eat... thi didnt look like the best plan in the world and shortly after this shot was taken the big Alpha joined in and the ice shattered (sadly that shot was blurred as he took me by suprise when he made a flying leap onto the ice)

It could be said that this shot would better with eye contact but I quite like the way he's looking intently at his "lolly pop"

Scenic : Coniston before the wind got up. I'd be happier with a bit more saturation so i might edit this when i'm reunited with photoshop (didnt pack a polariser - silly boy)

Elegant : I'm not sure what this chap is , I encountered him at south lakes and was very impressed by his sinuous grace in the trees and on water and land.- he was faster moving than my tracking autofocus would cope with so i got a lot of blurred shots until he decided to pose for me

Cheeky b****r - at least I didnt take Burton Dasset Windmill ;)

:P Burton Dassets hasn't got windmill it's a beacon on there...it's Chesterton Windmill old chap :D did you see what I did last night

Nice Catch up Moose, so you do have a camera after all then :p
Your Unknown, first instinct was to say that its a Fossa, but the face isn't right,
and it looks to small.
So I'd guess that its a Tayra, (was it about 2 feet long and moved like a Mustelid?)

Definitely not a fossa - i know what deee Foooosa looks like and it isnt that - Your latter sounds like an option though its only two foot if you don't count the tail ( I originally described it as the illegitimate son of a fox and an otter) - A quick google image search says you are correct

(oh and I have a new 70D now ;) )

The tail would add about another 18" to the length, yeah.

Edit I've just found their website and they do list " Tayra," as an exhibit

Watery : a watery sunset on heysham beach at low tide - apart from the resize this is SOOC so the colours really were that intense

Holy carp, that's one helluva sky. I've only see on sky that red and that was on the Isle of Sky.

Seems to need a slight CCW rotation.

Is that sun on the horizon?

Cheers.

Yep thats the sun, ive got one taken just before (below) that shows a half disc but the exposure wasnt quite right on that one

Thanks Phil , DK, and Chris for your comments

Andy - yes i agree about the sun , what i really needed was a grad filter , but I've stupidly packed the wrong size adaptor ring for my cokin holder ( Ive brought the 17-50f 2.8 but picked up the ring that goes on the 18-55IS :banghead: )

Still i'll be home tommorow night

wow - that's a cracking sunset, and very fitting for the watery themee

thanks lorraine - shows its always worth going out, as it didnt look like it was going to be much initially ( I originally planned to go up to the ruins on heysham barrows to put that against the sun, but had decided not to bother walking that far as it just looked a bit pink, then as the sun reached the horizon the sky just lit up )
