Brush becomes crosshair

Ok, sometimes when im playing away in CS3, my brush becomes a crosshair.

i.e where you usually see the circle of the brush, this is replaced by just a crosshair.

Why is this, its happened a few times and the only way I can rid myself of it is by shutting PS down and opening it all up again, which is a pain...

Any ideas?

When the brush size is so tiny as to appear as a dot, then PS makes it more conspicuous by putting a crosshair round it. Are you sure it's not just reverting to a tiny brush size (or, at least, one that looks tiny at your zoom level)?

Nah I dont think so, I tried adjusting the size of the brush, but still no luck.

You will lose the circle of the Brush if you have the Caps Lock on.

The Brush still works as it should, you don't see the size changing. If it is not working as it should and there is another reason you need to shut down then it may be another problem

on the mac version it works like silverJON says for me; as you make the brush smaller there's a limit to how useful the circle is, at some point I can't see it and it's much easier with the crosshair; redhed17 is right too. Learning the left-hand hold-downs and keyboard shortcuts can really speed things up
