Just wondering on what lens to take for photos of Red squirrels and can you take tripods (ferry/island)?.

You can take tripods for sure, I've done it before. Lens wise if you take some nuts, you can use a 10mm lens and still fill the frame :D but really they're very close. 70-200 or something like that would be ideal (from my experience). They do seem to be on the floor under the trees which means it gets a bit dark (although I've never been at this time of year so I assume there's more light).

Thanks for the quick reply ,600 f4 over kill then !

Indeed! I had a 300f4 and that was ideal but I didn't have nuts, somebody else was feeding them further away. I think with some time and nuts, 200 would have done. I'd say they were about 6m/20ft away.
