I'd like to use the mirror lock-up function on my Bronica ETRSI - reading the manual it's a bit confusing. It says 'to suspend photography' when the mirror is locked up, just reverse the lever and wind on. But it also says that 'reversing the mirror lock-up lever will release the shutter', presumable double exposing, so it says you have to go through a rigmarole of removing the film-back, and activating the multiple exposure lever, fire the shutter and reattach the back. Is it really that complicated to take a shot with the mirror locked up??

Also, are the cable releases universal? I have one for a 35mm camera (Pentax ME super), which seems to fit the threat on the Bronica.

Many thanks!
Tom

Cable releases are pretty much universal so, if it screws in without forcing it and doesn't pop out when the plunger is depressed, job's a good'un!

Can't help with the MLU.

I can help with this as I've used mirror lock-up on my ETRSi recently.

After wasting a number of frames, I can confirm that the correct process is:
  1. compose the shot
  2. lock up the mirror
  3. fire the shutter
  4. unlock the mirror
  5. wind on to the next frame
If you wind on without unlocking the mirror it stays up, so you can't compose the next frame through the viewfinder and either have to waste it, or take exactly the same shot that you've already composed again (although you can change shutter speed and aperture I suppose).

Thanks for the answers. Much appreciated. I don’t know why they make it so complicated in the manual!
