Broken PSE8

I wonder if anyone can help. My PC crashed while generating thumbnails in Organise. Now I am unable to get Organiser to open. Edit still works. Sometimes I get the back up reminder and sometimes not. Mostly the PC just goes back to showing the desktop. Task Manager suggests PSE is running. I have waited up to an hour for it to start.

If anyone has some suggestions or advice I'd appreciate it. I'm running XP.

try to unistall pse8 , restart the computer, the reinstall pse8

Yes, I've considered that. I have the disc so it isn't a problem. Just worried about how long it will take to generate the thumbnails for all the photos. Maybe it is my only option. But better try to find the cause of the crash before trying it. Thanks

one or more of you thumbnail or images maybe crupt.
you maght try clearing or deleting the exsitsing thumbnails
then recreating them.

i dont know much about pse8 , the thumbnails maybe in a folder,
if possible try opening the folder.

OK a bit confused here, what is the problem? PSE not starting or crashing on generating thumbnails?

Hi

If you google your problem it will bring up a web site with all sorts of usefull hints there are a couple of things to try with PSE8.

Have you unticked the auto recognition tick box in the properties
You may need to delete your catalog
A reinstall might help, but you may also need to alter / adjust / remove files from windows.

Thanks everyone - lots for me to look at here and try. In answer to your question Mark it won't start anymore after a PC crash, which is just weird. I'm thinking it has something to do with the thumbnails so I think I'll start looking there tomorrow evening. Been too busy this evening. Thanks again - Keith
