Last night I did something very silly, I dropped my laptop! It was a total accident but that doesn't change the fact that the screen now has a massive crack running across it.

I've hooked it up to an external monitor and everything else is fine. All my data is intact as is all the other hardware. Just to note it's a Compaq V6000 Series, I think the exact model is a 6314EA.

Now, I'm more than happy to replace the panel myself but I can't seem to find anywhere in the UK to buy one from! I have 2 questions:

1) Anyone know where I can buy one?

2) Is it enough just to look for a V6000 Series replacement panel or will I need the exact part number as HP may have changed panel supplier during manufacture?

Cheers in advance everyone!

Is it the protective plastic screen in front of the lcd.
Is it possible for you to post a picture.
I work for an optical filter company and we make screen covers. I might be able to get you something if possible.
Dean:)

With laptops having such a short life it's unlikely that the panel manufacturer will have changed (but possible). You should be able to find the part no. here.

It's also worth taking the bezel off the screen to see if you ascertain the manufacturer/model of the panel as the same panel may well have been used by different laptop manufacturers.

Once you have these numbers then Google & Ebay are favourites.

Cheers for the suggestions guys! I'll pop the bezel and check the part number as soon as I get a chance.

Dino: I'm afraid it's the actual LCD panel that's cracked. I can't post a pic at the moment as I've left the laptop in my office, but I can see where the crystal has leaked out so I know I need a whole new panel.
