well im gutted

i have just taken my camera back to local dealer so he can send back to sony
it seems that whilst trying to keep my late uncles old carmea stuff and wanting to use them i have broke my dslr :bonk:
the offending item was a tripod can anyone guess what i have done ??
well not noticing i had wound the old tripod up that much that i had gone throught the bottom of the camera and broke it
it wasnt untill i was in the shop with the guy and a llittle pieace of metel fell out of the carmera when he took the lens of he didnt notice it but i picked it up and when he went throught the back i had a right good look at it , then i looked under where the tripod mounts and :bang: i saw it!!! he didnt notice anything ,it was then i noticed all the other tripods in shop only had a small thread and that of my late uncles was about 3/4 " long bat: i guess thats it sony will send it back and say well sorry its missuse and i wont have a camera :thumbsdown:

gutted is not the word i was relly enjoying it espically with the snow
:bonk::

what a shame she says running to check camera, as i put imine on an antique tripod yesterday luckily with no ill effects.

Was it still working after you did this ? or is it well and truly *^%*ed

well its was sturuggerling to focus i put it down to the cold
its over for the thing :bonk:

would your household insurance cover this as accidental damage? - worth reading the policy wording and maybe giving it a try

i will probably work ok now the small bit that broke is out
did you try it again

If you have extended accidental damage on contents you can claim on household insurance if it was done in the home.
If you have personal belongings away from home cover you can claim if it was done outside the home
The things to consider are the excess and the effect it could have on the loss of no claims bonus

mate that is gutted, i really feel for you and hope you find a way to sort it
all the best

Something you need to be wary of. With a lot of tripods you can adjust the length of that protrudring screw by turning the screw in the head. It pays to keep it reasonably short - 4 or 5 turns should be plenty. When you unscrew the head from the tripod the screw tends to unscrew a little and you can end up with a dangerous amount protruding. Something I have to watch with both my Gitzo tripods.

:bonk::bonk::bang::bang:

Seriously, I feel for you - you must be gutted! I'm surprised we don't hear more of this happening, it's all too easy to do.

Trying to look on the bright side, I'm guessing you' may have punctured a circuit board which will possible be replacable, and maybe a new base plate.
