Hiya. Im running windows 7 and IE. I changed over to Sky broadband and it was activated on Tuesday. Now everything in the house by which I mean phones, laptop and the wee wireless connector for the on demand is having no problem with the sky router and I can access the internet with the laptop, however my main computer no likey! The computer connects to the network and says its connected with excellent strength but above this says no internet access. The status bars on the bottom have the little yellow exclamation sign that looks like a clamp on them. Ive tried everything I can think of including all the usual resets and disconnecting everything and reconnecting so all that's done. The status bars showed I had internet access at one point this afternoon but when I clicked on IE it couldn't display any web page and the little clamp just came back on. I cant see any reason why this can be. All lights are on sky box and as I say no probs with anything else.
Sorry bit long winded but trying to give as much info as possible.
Any help or suggestion would be appreciated as its going out the window soon
Thanks

if you click the yellow ! and go into Network and Sharing center. does the second part of the graphic have a red X on it?

if so click the X and let windows go through and reset the connection.

how far from the router is the computer? i wouldnt really trust the strength bars, about as reliable as a chocolate fireguard.

Hi Neil thanks for replying. Yes has red x but have already done that and all it comes up with is to unplug router and wait ten seconds which Ive done numerous times. the router is in ajoining room same set up as ive had for years with my BT broadband

okay, if you load up a command prompt on the computer and laptop. type:

ipconfig

and tell us what the ipv4, subnet, gateway and DNS servers are on both.

it may also be worth disabling ipv6 on the computer. some routers just dont play nice if a machine has it enabled.

I think this might need a new home network however, as Neil says, Win7 should sort itself out.

I think when I have this, I right click on the triangle and let windows troubleshooter sort it out.

If nothing works just give Sky a call.

Hi Mike as I say it goes through the diagnostic then just tells me to unplug the router. The router is fine as everything else is working through it and all lights are on. Never had any problems with computer using my BT broadband for years

haha Graham tried that shes sending a new router cause she had no idea even though I told her theres nothing wrong with the router and they don't send out engineers for this problem only take your money

ok thanks Kev
Ipv4 192.168.0.2
subnet 255.255.255.0
gateway 192.168.0.1
cant see dns servers but most things say media disconnected
What is the result of the command on a computer that does work and one that doesn't?

:)

need both sets to compare.

you might need to do "ipconfig /all" to get DNS servers.

The only other thing I can think of is to disable your firewall briefly and see if you get on.

Its why they named computers "windows" cos they play up so much that you just want to throw them outa the window....:lol:

hi try this from a cmd window like the one used for the ipconfig type
ipconfig /release
then
ipconfig /flushdns
then
ipconfig /renew

then try again
