Has anybody had dealings with Bristol Cameras?

Their prices are pretty competitive but I've read some mixed reviews about them and the only thread on here is around 3yrs old.

Cheers.

They don't seem to have very good reviews - check Google.

Thanks Al,

Checked Google and it seems the main topic is poor delivery - states in-stock when the item is not.

Dave

had dealings with them back in 2008 when i bought a 50d from there the first one was faulty and they replaced it with no problems
this was in store though and not on line

Thanks to all for the input. Going by answers here and elsewhere it seems as a shop they're fine but buying via their website is where the problems arise - mainly failure of letting customers know when items are not in-stock.

I suppose a quick phone call is the best bet.

Dave.

ive bought a few things online from them never had an issue takes about a week for delivery

if you read the small print it does say many items are available for order as the shop is to small to carry everything

Bought a flash from them some years ago

It was coming up to 4 weeks with no sign of the flash, I gave them a call and was told it had just been delivered to them and they would post it out that day.

It was another week and a half, plus another phone call, before the flash turned up.

This was the first and last time I used them

Incidentally I had called then first before buying the flash and was told it was in stock and if I bought before 12pm it would be sent out the same day - obviously they were not being truthful

Not really, they say whatever they like on the phone too.

My experience also.

They say that items listed as in stock (also sometimes confirming same by phone) are actually only available to order?
Nope can't see that.
Unless you misunderstood our concerns?

Obviously nowhere stocks everything but they do not blatently lie about stock levels when orders are taken like some seem to, inc Bristol Cameras in my (and others) experience.

My one and only experience mirrors most of the posts above

Ended up requesting a refund for a lens ordered online that they couldn't supply

Never bothered again, can't understand the sense in running a business like that

I found them very helpful and friendly on the phone when I rang up for advice about a lens bag on their web site. However it became clear they don't hold the stock shown on the website, but order it in once a customer has 'bought' it.

As I said thought the chap I spoke to was helpfulness itself and I have not been put off using thier shop itself, provided what you want is there on site.

I've bought online with them a few times no problems.
Last time ordered 2 sandisk cards, fast delivery, one turned out to be faulty and they refunded as soon as they received back the faulty card.
I also needed to order some items for a giottos tripod that i couldn't find online, within an hour they'd added them to their online catalogue so i could order them.

Same experience as many others here. I ordered a tripod head online that was listed as in stock, they took payment immediately and then took weeks and many chases to find out they were waiting for stock and it had arrived that day. Another week or so for delivery. Didn't have time back them but was going to send it in trading standards direction, they aren't supposed to take the money if they don't have an item in stock.
This was a few years ago, so they may have got better?
