Best of luck, there are no rules but those you make yourself.

Well at least you all have someone to laugh at this year I don't mind - really LOL:lol:

They'll be no laughing, unless you intended us to!

Well we don't have long to wait!

Good luck, I'm sure everyone who follows this through will improve greatly, I certainly hope I do!

It is not good but I may replace it if I am allowed LOL

Hi Briony, the light is a little harsh was it your pop up flash? Would love to see it lit from a natural light source from the side.

Hi briony, good start, I agree with foggy, try lighting it with a natural light source from the side. I would stand the bottle on a piece of White card and rest the card on the wall so the card is curved and give a far ammount of space between the bottle and the White card stood up against the wall. You may find it helps to use a piece of White paper or card on the opposite side of the bottle as a reflector to feel in the shadows.

It's definately got curves :) a nice subject no doubt but i'm not liking the harsh reflections given off, it does look like cough mixture and if it was i'd neck the lot lol.

This is what all bottles have looked like to me since new year, except they're empty ;)

Thanks guys it was a pop up flash got to buy a proper one yes and it did have card at the back but obviously not bright white as it should have been.

I will experiement myself this week and try and get it better but the contentsd won't be the same LOL

May look like cough mixture but sure tastes good.

Thanks for the advice maybe I am going to enjoy this challenge I feel it is going to help me alot.

Can someone tell me how I can put a little smiley thing against my thread so I can find it easier in the forum please?

nice curved bottle there!

good start and what a curvy bottle........... as mentioned above - light a little harsh..... will be good to see all our week 52 compared to week 1, as I am for sure this is the best way for me to improve.......

Love the subject, which reminds me of earlier this year, whilst buying 6L (yes 6 litres of tesco value gin, go make enough sloe gin for 1/2 stone of sloes) - couldn't resist buying a lemon and a small bottle of schweppes tonic. Look on the cashiers face - priceless.

Hi Briony,
nice start, got a chic feel to it,, as mention already the rather harsh light. Oh, did it taste nice?
Will follow with interest.

Hic - oh yes tasted as good as it looks:thumbs:

Hoping with the purchase of a flash it may improve my pictures where the light is needed.

Still learning.

nice and curvey. I am in the same position only having the flash on the camera to use so I think I will have to stick to day light photos for my 52 .. fun at this time of year.

Best of luck with the next 51 :)

Hi Briony,

Lovely subject for the theme, that's a beautiful bottle.
Sorry to repeat what's already been said, but I do agree about the light.

I only have pop-up flash too, but if natural daylight is lacking then a bog standard desk lamp or two can give you a bit more control over the lighting than you get with the flash.
You can also use a piece cut out of a plastic milk bottle or even some white tissue / crepe paper to make a diffuser for either the lamp or your pop-up flash.
Oh and white card or a piece of card covered in tin foil make useful reflectors.

Very basic and low tech, but it does help.

The bottle seems a little cramped and at the top especially in my opinion. Everyone has said about the lighting already :) Fits the theme very well.

Looking forward to week 2 please don't let it be "snow" LOL

Very interesting bottle. The crop is a little tight for my liking, give it a little more space on top and bottom. The flash has created some harsh reflection so natural light (with a tripod) or a diffuser would help here, also move the object away from the background if you can to give it better seperation and prevent shadows. Feels like you've slightly missed the focus on the front of the bottle (or it might be my eyes), you might have to use manual focus as auto can have trouble locking on to surfaces like this.

But it's a great subject and good attempt. I'm sure you'll be revisiting that bottle for more images at some point :)

I like the curvy bottle, but glass is better lit from behind or if you want to be experimental from underneath. Cut a hole out of a piece of card and stick the bottle over the hole, put the light underneath!

You do not really need a flash for still life shots. This could have been lit with a torch, custom white balance and long exposure. One to try again perhaps when we have a repeat theme.

Well I love this picture so had to show it

Poem/Lyrics

NELLIE THE ELEPHANT

To Bombay a travelling circus came
They brought an intelligent elephant
and Nellie was her name

One dark night she slipped her iron chain,
and off she ran to Hindustan
and was never seen again

oooooooooooooooooo...

[Chorus:]
Nellie the elephant packed her trunk
and said goodbye to the circus
off she rode with a trumpety trump
trump trump trump
Nellie the elephant packed her trunk
and trundled off to the jungle
off she rode with a trumpety trump
trump trump trump

Night by night she danced to the circus band
When Nellie was leading the big parade
she looked so proud and grand

No more tricks for Nellie to perform
They taught her how to take a bow
and she took the crowd by storm

oooooooooooooooooo...

[Chorus x2]

The head of the heard was calling far far away
they met one night in silver light
on the road to Mandalay

oooooooooooooooooo...

Thank you I have taken all the C & C on board and will be trying harder next time and using a few hints to make it better.

Thank you even though I missed it's feet out !!!

I'll never get that song out of my head now :bat:

Comical combination

It's a great Bottle Briony, but I have to agree, the light is a bit harsh. It would also be good to move the bottle away from the background a bit.

Yep have to agree with John and most of the posts here - lovely theme fitting subject but just needs a bit of a play with the light and bg :)
