Hi

after a bit of advice about bridge cameras. My daughter is starting to take a bit of an interest in photography and I was thinking of buying her a bridge camera to practice with, any recommendations in about the £200 price range.

Take daughter to a bricks and mortar camera shop, get her to handle the cameras in your projected price range (new and secondhand), she needs to buy into it, and want to use it, and for that it must be comfortable for her (otherwise it will just sit on a shelf). Discuss both stills and video functionality with her, video may be more important to her than you might think.

Then buy from the bricks and mortar shop, because they have taken the time with yourselves in the shop and in effect have saved you money (as opposed to buying a cheaper 'wrong' camera from the internet which then gathers dust)

I would recommend an 'independent store' rather than a 'large chain!'

She has used my D5100 and finds it a bit heavy, she is only 6, so thought bridge to learn the basics and then in a year or 2 upgrade here to a dslr.
I would have purchased a compact camera or at the very most a secondhand Sony a6000 +16-50 as an example

She has been using a compact but wanted to get her use to using a dslr shaped camera with the normal button and screen layout to make the upgrade easier later. Will look at the Sony as well, thanks.

Arrrr, I forget six year old's are going on 12 these days, however the bridge camera suggested is only 100g lighter than a d5100 and a kit lens. Your choice, good luck.
