Hi

Recently I was told that DSRL cameras are producing much better quality pictures than bridge cameras, because theirs optical sensor is much larger (amongst other things).

Well, I have checked that on the internet and for example Fuji S9600 has 1/1.6 inch which is 25.4mm/40.6mm and DSLR Sony a200 has 23.6mm/15.8mm...

Am I missing something or actually bridge camera has larger sensor than DSLR in that case?

Thanks
Pietrach

1/1.6 " (7.78 x 5.83 mm, 0.45 cm²) is the sensor size for the Fuji :)

edit - that's the S9100.....one moment

edit #2 - seems to have the same sensor size?

Hmm, I'd check again, 1/1.6 does not mean 1x1.6 inches.

That would be equivalent to £3k full frame cameras, I'm sure the S9600 is nice but its no pro level camera.

As pointed out above the S9600 has a sensor size of 7.78 x 5.83 mm
For comparison, A canon 50D has a sensor size of 22.3 x 14.9 mm which is obviously, significantly larger when considered in terms of area.
