My daughter is looking for a Christmas present for her husband. They have just moved into their first house so she only has a budget of £150. Can anyone please recommend anything that good value for the price?

Before I could afford a dslr I used a fuji bridge camera. It was pretty basic, no IS or RAW or HD video, well, nothing had back then ... but it did have manual controls, the basics, but enough to get to grips with the idea of manual controls. It had a half decent macro mode and good zoom.

The bridge cam's fuji have nowadays are far better. They come equipped with image stabilisation and HD video as standard, and they are cheap enough too. Look out for price cuts on the likes of Amazon, like this one:

I got a couple of Fuji bridge cameras for the kids for christmas last year and they are very good performers for what they cost. Neither of them cost much over £100 but the better models aren't much more expensive and have some better features.

much prefer lumix and always have personally
you can get a lumix bridge for under £150 brand new
don't forget to take into account the cost of a decent memory card too

Fuji do reconditioned bridge camera's to very good prices.

Thanks for everyone's comments we've decided on a Nikon Coolpix L810. Good price at Argos £130.
