Brand new to DLSR

Hello everyone. I'm brand new to DLSR - so new in fact that i haven't actually even got my camera yet - i just ordered it, and am so excited thought i'd come and join here.. Is that daft?
I have gone for a Canon EOS 500D, and i'm sure will need plenty of tips and help to get me on my way. I'm lucky to live in lovely gloucestershire, so plenty of beautiful rural scenes waiting to be captured. I'm a graphic designer 'by day', and I paint. I've always had a big interest in photography in a point and snap way, but its not since college that i used a SLR - and that was back in 1993 - so long time before digital!
Anyway i'm looking forward to meeting lots of people on here - see if it lives up to it's friendliest forum claim. Hope so!

Welcome to the boards. Get the camera, shoot manual, screw up, learn from it, and within a week your mates will nickname you David Baily.

Yes, this is the friendliest forum you will ever come across. There are times when the mods hand out cookies, other times its' funny names to go with our avatars. In between all that, some good food for thoughts on photography stuff too
