My Beautiful fiancee got me a Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II Lens for our birthday. when i say 'our birthday', we were both born July 16th, just 5 years apart
anyway, we got back from holiday yesterday(I took her to Cala Galdana in Menorca for her present... but it was her 21st!) and today i decided to try out my new 'nifty fifty'. the lens is great and i love it!
the problem is, after about only 20 shots the AF packed up! it just does nothing. it wont even fire a shot :( i have tried everything and tried it on both my 400D and Carlys 40D but still nothing. it works fine manually and have have managed to have a bit of a play so all is not lost.
i was wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem or knows how to fix it?
unfortunately we cant just take it back as it was purchased on tinterweb from Digital Rev in China.

any help or advice is much appreciated

I had the same problem with mine, but as soon as I switched the camera off and and took the lens out, then put it back on again......it was fine again...
Your problem must be different.....
good luck

I don't know whether this applies to your Canon, but on my Nikon you have to make sure that you have locked the aperture ring on the lens to f22 before putting it on the camera. Mine had moved on my Nikon and gave me problems until I reset and locked it.

in fact it was onestop so hopefully they can help...

nothing seems to be working

so... anyone else had this problem with the Canon?

:help:

clean the lens contacts
make sure the battery is charged
try another lens
try the same lens on another camera

hth

hate to say it but i think its a dud... just strange as ive not heard of any problems with this lens, just my luck:annoyed:

So you are only 16?

:D

Haha, imagine that. A 16 year old with a beautiful 21 year old fiancée. Wouldn't know what to do with yourself!

I suggest sending it back to onestop :) They're usually good with stuff like this.
Got a Sigma 70-300, a Sigma 10-20, and a Canon 430ex from them and had to return the 430ex, and it was very quick. All happened within a week or so.
