I have a bit of a dilema I need a flash and I have got down to either a new 430EX II for £189.95 or an imaculate 580EX mk I for £199.99.

Any advise towards which to get would be great! :)

Can I possibly suggest you look at the Nissin Di866, I found it a good alternative for the 580 II when I was looking. And you can get it for £195 posted from the right places online.

Go for the 580EX, it's more powerful and if you get more canon flashes in the future, it can fire them as well! I went for a 430EX as it was all that I could afford, but I'm still wanting a 580 as well to get a multiple ETTL flash solution up and running!

I've got both. The 430 has decent weather sealing but I can never figure out the menus. The 580 is more powerful and can act as a master flash (though I don't use it for that). Not much to choose between the really - they are both very decent flashes. I've heard good things about the Nissin too. Pick one and don't worry too much.

What about this one...

Sigma EF 530

I've been looking too and just seen this...

£119 at warehouseexpress.com...

More expensive at some other places...It could be a contender...but I dont know as have not used it myself...

I'll be keepin an eye on this thread as well for peoples comments...

At that price I suspect that's the basic ST , if it's the Super (bells, whistle et al) at that price - bargain.

Whooooooops...my fault...

Super is £168 from Onestopdigital HK...good seller...used for a lens

Best Ive seen is £160ish...

I STAND CORRECTED...BUT THIS LOOKS EVEN BETTER...!!!

580Mk1. No brainer IMHO.

As already stated, it has twice the power, and can be used as a master controller in multi remote set ups.
