When shooting transparency film, to nail exposure (transparency film had no exposure latitude and so what you shot really was what you got).

exposure blending / HDR

Trying to get it as 'right' as possible in camera (digital has some latitude but some people prefer to get it right in camera - particularly important when shooting JPEG).

So on occasions where you can't trust your meter, and you want it SOOC bracketing will get you there.

Or where what you're shooting is beyond the sensors dynamic range, it'll allow you to blend exposures, and give better results than you'll get from a single RAW file.

It's not about long exposures. But yes you can merge files in CS5

thats fair enough, if you ever get the opportunity to play with LR here is what i do, taken from another post similar to yours

1) i take up to 9 images, -4 stops, 0, +4 stops.
2) use Lightroom to crop as needed and sync to all images.
3) export from LR to PS and use merge to HDR pro but make the image a 32bit image not 16 bit, i do this because much much more info is stored in 32bits.
4) save the image as tiff and import to LR and play as needed, you will have + - 4 stops of dynamic rage to play with.

With that sort of range to will produce an image that doesnt have that HDR tack.

use a tripod..or you get spooks
