I've a friend who's looking to offload a little used Bowens Gemini 500/500r kit.

Now I've been in the market for a basic studio kit, and I reckon I could probably get him down to about £500 for it. The other kit I was considering was a Lencarta Smartflash 200 kit, which would be slightly cheaper.

I've read reviews of the Bowens, but has anyone here got any experience of this kit? Or have any other recommendations of a kit in and around the £400 mark I should be looking at?

Cheers!

I've got a pair of 500 r heads and a pair of older 500's and they've been ultra reliable.

Does the kit include the stands and soft box / umbrella ?

I think the bowens, esp if you can get it for the money you talk about is head and shoulders over the smart flashes. The build quality alone is fantastic

Top kit, Ive used in for a while, reliable as a reliable thing.

You've made an excellent decision EspressoJunkie, They are certainly built to last. I use 3 500r's regularly + other Bowens gear......It just works .......& works well

Many thanks for info I was looking at the 500r on Thursday at Calumet but @ £860.00 I wanted to have a look around

Thanks for the replies everyone.

One question for those of you that have them, would the modelling lights be fairly strong on them? I'm just wondering if they could be used as a source of constant light for photographing newborns?

I use em at my studio, and can and do shoot on my D3 on modelling lights only just whack the iso up a bit.
