Hi everyone,

Disclaimer: Many apologies if this seems boring or trivial!

I need some impartial advice to help me decide something. In essence, I have two RB67 bodies and I am looking to sell one of them.

On the one hand, I have an RB67 Pro S body, which I've owned since about 2009, and quite literally it has never missed a beat. It's neve jammed, leaked light, miss fired... nothing. It's worked flawlessly since I bought it second hand on the-bay. I've also looked after it very well.

On the other hand, I have an RB67 Pro SD, which I bought about 6 months ago. I bought a complete system, (back, WLF, body and 90mm) as I wanted the back and 90mm lens to add to the overall kit, and had planned on selling this body and WLF to recoup some cash. I've tested the camera with a few of my lenses, and I've tested the back that came with it on the Pro S, and all it fine - suggesting previous owners took good care of it

Both bodies appear to be in superb condition, and work absolutely fine. So which do I sell?

The former has years of precedent in terms of the mechanics being fine, whereas the latter does not (while in my company). The former is potentially up to 16 years old than the latter however, so it could be argued that from first order thinking has less life left in it (I can't find a place to link S/N with year of manufacture to confirm this figure). The former has, to some degree, a place of sentiment, whereas the latter is technically a slightly better camera (takes all lenses natively, can take 6x8 back, and some other insignificant details). Either body could stop working tomorrow for all I know.

I know this all sounds daft, and really it kind of is, but genuinely I would appreciate some thoughts on which to keep / sell. TIA!

Oh thats a really tough choice.

Is there any real difference in the experience or outcome of using either one? If not, I'd suggest keeping the pro S as, as you've said, there is some sentimentality with that one.

From what I understand, apart from some very minor feature changes, and perhaps some minor tweaks to the mechanics (one might presume…) they are basically the same camera. As such, essentially no, there is no difference in the outcome or handling.

The sentimental aspect is perhaps the only thing I have to go on!

I hesitate to suggest the obvious answer.

;)

… no really, please tell me!

Wait, is it to keep both?! I need the money! :ROFLMAO:

I haven't got a clue what they are, but you'll regret selling the one with provenance, so to speak. You always do. If you give yourself a good talking to you might realise you don't need the extra bells and whistles.

I would think about this for a while, say 5 years minimum. Then when people ask if you actually sold one of the bodies you could say in all honesty, "I've given it a lot of thought but haven't quite made up my mind". In the meantime you have had the pleasure of owning them both.

IMO, the "S" is yours and the "SD" system was bought as much for the peripherals as the body so I'd keep the "S" and the peripherals, letting the "SD" go to pastures new as per your original plan for it.

In truth, I listed the technical advantages really only for completeness, I don't put too high a weighting on these aspects in particular. I suppose I value more the notion that the SD could be potentially newer, and hence to some approximation, could have a little more life left in it? In any case though, I find myself agreeing with your main point above all :)

The thing is... there are some other things I would like more than simply owning two bodies... If money wasn't an issue, I'd happily do that and for that exact reasoning! :D

I'd say that this is definitely the way I'm starting to lean now, and certainly seems to be the prevailing opinion of the thread :)

Thanks all! :)

A simple problem really. Keep both but use only the newer one for 16 years and then decide.

Toss a coin, heads you get rid of the old one, tails you get rid of the new one. When the coin falls and you know which it is, how do you feel; happy or disappointed? That should tell you your true feelings and you'll know what to do. And yes, I did know to do that before The Big Bang Theory had it on one of their shows.

Personally I would stick with a faithful and reliable friend rather than one with potentially a more impressive CV but not a proven track record (with you).

Engage pragmatic mode :

If you need the cash then sell the one which will bring in the most money.

Right, it's definitive, I'm keeping old faithful :D

Many thanks everyone for the replies, all the varied and solid points, notes, and methods about keeping the 'older' one are well received and appreciated. And coincidentally, the newer one is likely worth a tad more as well :).

...Anyone want a Pro SD body and WLF?!:LOL: (In all seriousness, I'll probably stick it up for sale on here in the first instance, and likely this weekend if I get round to it)

Actually, apart from my lighthearted post earlier, I think that’s logical. Without knowing the actual figures I would say following your original reasons for getting the second camera and selling it means that you are in the same position as before buying it, with respect to bodies, but have gained a lens as planned.

Don't worry, I understood where you were coming from :D

And yes that is indeed true. Selling the newer one definitely feels like the right thing to do.
