Could someone tell me the best way to put a border round my photos? I have photoshop (although quite an old version thats never been been updated!) and am willing to download any free programmes.

I can add a white border with the canvass size function on PS but quite like a lot of the ones I have seen on here with the black and white borders

Thanks in advance

personally after i have resized a shot i press ctrl a to activate the little ants as i call the around the outside of the shot. then
click on edit scroll down to stroke. pick a colour and a width.

i:e black width 50

then the same again but use a white of say 48..

and hey presto

just have a play and see how you get on

The easiest way to do it on Photoshop is to click on "Image", go down to "Canvas Size".

Once the window pops up, at the bottom you'll see "Canvas Extension Colour" with a drop down box. select the appropriate colour.

Above that you'll see "Width" and "Height" boxes with numbers next to them, and next to that a drop down box with "cm" in. Change the drop down to "pixels" and then just change the figures in the "Width" and "Height" boxes - I'd suggest adding 5 pixels initially just to see the effect.

If you have a number of images with the same dimensions it may well be worth recording the above sequence as an "Action" and assigning it to an "F" Key. That way you just pull up the photo and hit F(whatever number) and it will do the whole thing for you.
