Borders on portraits and framing.

I have taken a few portrait shots and someone is keen on a couple, so I would like to know how to put a 1cm white border around the image, which at the moment is a full A4 size, in order that they fit in the frames which I have. The frames are A4, but the images do not look right at the moment, and I think the border would finish them off nicely.
I should add that I shoot in RAW, do the editing in Elements, and then save as JPEG.

This is how I'd do it (using PS but ...) Not sure of the precise commands in elements but you should be able to do the following. Resize a jpeg version of the image - use a copy in case you fubar it ;) - to 190mm x 277mm. Open a new A4 document and set the background to white. Copy the re-sized image and paste onto the new document. Save with required jpeg settings. You may need to centre the pasted image.
 
Thinking about this, there is an easier way ... if elements has the "image / canvas size" adjustment option, use that, simply add 2 cm to each of the dimensions making sure the background colour is set to white. Then you would have to resize back to A4 (the borders would be a tiny bit under 1 cm)

It's actually easier to show you than type it....


That's to give a 5cm border each side of a A2 print.
