reading the thread about coke and then people talking about whiskeys and stuff - combined with not having a beer for about 3 weeks now (for no apparent reason) got me thinking about what i like to drink when i go out.

If i'm going to the pub to watch footy, i generally drink guinness and stay on it.

If i'm going on a lads night out, i might start with a guinness and then i'd go onto Peroni / Bud bottles, then we'd always have a few shots later on (sambuca / tequila / slippery nipples) and i'd wind down on a couple of JD's.

If i'm out for a meal or a couples thing then probably just bottled beers - and maybe dip into the wine.

At home with friends - whatever is on offer or whatever anyone else is on.

So, what are your tipples? Always the same or you change according to the company / night out?

I bet we've got some right p**s cans amongst us

Very much depends on the occasion. Out with just mates then it's usually bottled continental lager (the water in this country is rubbish for brewing lager) or sometimes draft bitter. Out for dinner with friends (couples) then it's usually red wine. At home it can be either or with the addition of whisky and, very occasionally, brandy

yes! You forget about the bbq nights and hot days when it gets to winter don't you!

Quite like a glass of prosecco whilst tucking into a bit of charcoaled chicken

I dont generally drink , on account of my old man being an alcoholic ******* loser who i have no desire to emulate.

however on the occasions that i do have the ocasional drink I usually drink cider , can't stand the taste of lager/beer/ale etc

I dont go out for meals as I find I cannot drink on a full stomach :D Winter it will be Ale. Summer it will usualy be a good Cider but all finishing the evening off with a few Brandy`s or JD`s. I have been banned from Southern Comfort for my own safety  There is defo something in that that turns me into indestructible  Red wine I dont drink anymore through my own choice, 9 bottles at the Bro in law`s wedding finished me off, and that was on top of the Stella I had consumed.

I very rarely drink spirits, but do like a good brandy.

However, I am more than partial to the odd pint of cask ale..................:)

Well it generally depends on the mood but either a decent in my own opinion) lager like Stella or Kronenborg, a decent bitter from the stable of Adnams, red wine, port or a nice malt whiskey - on a bad day uit can be most of them!!

Budweiser or just about any spirit. Don't like wine, it give me a headache (I odn't just mean the following morning I mean within 5 miuntes or so of drinking). Jack Daniels by the bottle is always good.

Guinness in the winter, Cider in the summer followed by a couple of Bushmills.
If at home Carlsberg Export
Dinner/ couple Red wine

Mostly real ale but I also love cider, especially in the summer.
Bottled lager but not draught unless it really is a last resort.
Red wine too, not so keen on white but I will drink it.
In fact, early though it is, as I've raced today it's already struck beer o'clock. Cheers!

I Rarely drink these days. I'm generally driving if we're out, so alcohol is a complete no-no.
On holiday, I'm a short drinker - ouzo before a meal, wine with the food and tsikoudia (Cretan Raki) afterwards, maybe with a girly cocktail to round things off. If I do have a drink in a pub, chances are that it'll be a cider (NOT Cidre!).

Usually an apple and melon j2o or a bottle of coke, not keen on the syrup and fizzy water based drinks dispensed from a nozzle.

I'm not a big drinker myself, but I do really enjoy wine. Especially French blends (Rhone wines in particular) and Australian syrahs. Not really a big drinker of whites, apart from an occasional Riesling in summer, or splash of Tokaji after a good dinner. I also love Port.

On the spirit front, I enjoy the odd measure of Irish whiskey, and I'm rather fond of rum, especially dark rum.

For an evening at the pub, I'll have a Guinness, Scandinavian cider or pilsner.

Mmm this thread has made me thirsty.

I'm a fan of Californian wines, more reds in winter and whites in summer

Champagne for special occasions

For pub drinking usually lagers, but in summer sometimes cider.

at home, german or belgian wheat beer, Erdinger or hoegaarden, or if I'm having a curry, like tonight :), a couple of Cobras are very nice.

Warning !! do not read any further if you are a CAMRA member.

I like Real Ale shandies

:D

Sitting here enjoying a nice Cockburns Port with some cheese right now.

In the pub usually lager or cider or a Belhaven Best.

I'm a big fan of single malt whisky as well. Current faves are Jura, Dalwhinnie and Benromach.

i drink cask ale or nothing in the winter. If they don't have any cask ale on then i either leave that place or just have soft drinks. I'm not one for drinking something just because it has alcohol in it, I'll only drink something I enjoy the taste of. Although I will drink guiness if there is nothing else, even though it's a far way from the best stout you can buy.

In the summer, my preference is cask ale but I'll drink lagers if they are any good. Usually something imported from the Czech region like Staropramen. You will never see me drinking any of the following rubbish: bud, fosters, carling, kronenberg, heineken, castelmain etc.

I will drink anything that takes my fancy, not got a particular fav but as I get older I seem to be drinking more wine as this does not seem to bloat as much as a pint does. I even have a WKD if I feel I need a refresher during a night out with friends.

Champagne is the ultimate drink....no hangovers when you get snozzled on that stuff.

Top 5 for me

1. Champagne
2. Pinot Noir or a good Burgundy wine
3. JW Lees bitter
4. VB bitter (Aussie beer)
5. A good Manhattan.

Generally Carlsberg (or Fosters, Carling, Amstel, depending on whats available). In summer will also drink cider (Aspalls). Also like JD & diet coke and Disarrono (neat and with coke).

Like whites (sauvignon blanc) but cant handle more than a glass of red.

I used to drink Lager, Guiness and Ales, but last year switched to Cider as i'd worked out that wheatie productres we causing a lot of abdominal discomfort. I haven't really been one for shorts for years.

:lol::lol:

I have had pretty much everything out there. From smooths such as John Smiths to Everads Tiger and Adnams. Used to live in Hertford and liked the McMullen ales but then they stopped selling Gladstone which was lovely. I just find that real ales are just too hit & miss. Lagers do taste different but are similar and generally hard to find a poor one. I know you can ask for a sample, but there are so many foul beers, or ones that have not been kept well. Dont mind the odd guiness too!

thats the beauty of it, it's an adventure! also, it means that you get to know where serves a good pint and where doesn't

Proper beer or wine generally. Generally in a pub with a good ale on I'll drink that, but with a meal, in a bar which is only serving fizzy stuff etc. then wine.

Cider seems to be a popular tipple... and it always looks really refreshing when i see people with a pint of Magners full of ice and cider - but the taste just takes me straight back to my school leavers party where i got absolutely wrecked on a 2L bottle of some cheapo stuff. My dad came and picked me up (literally off the floor) and scooped me into the car to take me home. we had to pull over about every 100 yards so i could hurl. Ahhh, the memories.

i was the same for years mate. the thought of cider always remided me of my hurling the stuff up in my teens
it certainly doesn't taste as strong going down now, as it did coming up back then :gag:

Out on a TP meet -Lager
Out in the Pub - Lager
Resturant - Bottled lager and Red Wine
Home - Lager or Red Wine
BBQ - Lager
If any shorts, it will usually be a drop of Absolut from the freezer :D
