Bold....or reckless?

I read that earlier and must say that I was surprised! But then the article refers to it being open to 170 employees then goes on to say that the Virgin Group employees over 50,000 people. So I'm guessing that it will, at first, only be available to his inner circle of directors, and those people won't have got to where they are by doing the minimum amount of work possible. I wouldn't be surprised if in an environment like that they will have to force people to take the legal minimum holidays as no one will want to be seen as the slacker of the office. A bit like the legal interns I've known who always want to be in the office before their boss and leave later too so that their boss sees the amount of time/effort/life they're putting into the placement.

I haven't used my full holiday allowance for the last 4 years either.

 I'd be looking at changing jobs if I were in that position - but then I prefer being at home with the family than at work, YMMV!

No no...you misunderstand me.
I rarely work late (gone by 5pm and often as not 4-4.30pm)
I do get here for 7.45am, but that's my choice, if I wait until just a little later a 45 minute commute can become a 90 minute commute easily.
I don't not take holidays because of work, I simply don't take holidays often :-)

ah I see, sounds like you'd be an ideal employee for Sir (or is it Lord yet?) Branson!

Looks like it's on offer to his personal staff so closer than an inner circle of directors. As long as work that needs to be done is done, I think it's a bold offer rather than reckless. He didn't get where he is by not taking the occasional risk and he's done OK so far!

I think it's a brilliant idea - but employers are 'supposed' to 'make' employees take the minimum statutory holidays - which is currently 28 days for full time workers doing 9-5 mon-fri (includes 8 bank holidays). I believe if you take more than that allowed by Virgin then the extra is unpaid. I'd definitely be willing to lose pay for more hols lol

Last year was the first time in ages I found it easy to use up my holiday entitlement as I had to take 3 weeks off between my old job finishing and the new one starting. Since April, I've only had 5 days holiday plus bank holidays. I have to take 3 service related holidays before Christmas as I am only allowed to carry over 5 days, I get 5 days holiday plus bank holidays at Christmas anyway. I still have 12 days annual holiday on top of all that to take before end of March, but I get another 10 days service related holiday from first day back to work in the new year after the Christmas break. We have to use our holiday entitlement, just wish I could give some away. :(

give it to me, I never have enough :)

Hmm. I've had two days holiday this year.

Up until last year I rarely took any holiday as the boss would pay me back for the days, so I'd get a nice big bonus at the end of the year, usually £1k ish. Then he decided he didn't want to pay it anymore so started pushing us to take the days off. Infact he rang me earlier and asked me to take tomorrow off. Pfft.
