Amazing really (no one was killed). Watching the BBC News live coverage and apparently, the power cut out just as it was coming in to land and the pilot had to glide the plane in and just about made in into the airport perimeter to land in the grass!

WOW Deepest sympathy to those on board, it must have been terrifying, congrats to the cabin crew and pilot. Still a reletively rare occurance thank goodness.

Kudos to the captain for having the skill to avert a near catastrophe.

Thats why we should all be allowed parachutes! The BBC seemed to emphasise the fact that it delayed the PM's flight to China/India, does that really matter? Oh well, sounds like the crew did a good job bringing her down relatively safely.

I heard about this all the way up to Blackpool this afternoon ... ... amazing that no-one was seriously injured ... :suspect: ... or worse ...

:p

I heard somewhere on the news that some of the passengers didn't realise and thought it was just a bumpy landing! Well done to the crew and to the emergency services to make sure it wasn't nastier

And there's a reason why I'd always choose BA over the likes of RyanAir etc!

 and :woot: to the Captain, apparently there was no time to warn crew or passangers, they just thought it was a rough landing! Totally amazed

Can you imagine 136 members of the public all trying to get out of the plane in a panic? I think it would be complete chaos :p

Glad to see there were only a few minor injuries though, could have been a lot worse I am sure.

Was just about to post something similar

the plane that came down was a 777, it can carry up to 368 passengers and fly at 35,000ft (6.5 miles) doing close to 600mph

if you had to jump from there, you would be dead before you got to the door of the plane

they do say some dumb things on those 24 hours news channels sometimes.

they said yesterday that the passengers didnt realise it was a crash landing until they got off the plane and looked back. I mean, the thing must have nearly hit the perimeter fence, landed on the grass, lost half the landing gear, busted a big chunk of wing off, stopped at an angle, stopped in 1/4 of the distance it would normally and then everyone had to get out of the plane on inflatable slides whilst dodging the oxygen masks that had dropped from the ceiling. Whilst avoiding the spray from the fire engines you would think that maybe they had some idea it was a normal landing. (mind you it was probably better than the last two Ryanair landings i experienced)

badgerbaiter,

I think it was more a case of "They didn't realise it wasn't a normal, yet bumpy, landing until the oxygen masks dropped down etc".

But I agree they do sensationalise the hell out of everything!

Well disciplined crews are worth their weight in parachutes in a situation like this. Don’t all news reporters and media look for the worst in any situation, like the current rain fall it’s as thou they want people’s homes to flood, ghouls?

Doesn't make a good story "These homes didn't get flooded in the rain"
