Hi Guys,

I am on the lookout for a bmx bike for my son who is right into skateparks just now. I am reading various sites stating chrome frames are better than hi ten steel and others saying the opposite. Anyone any advice? I have a budget of around £500 as i don't want to go mad for the first bike. What are the basics i should be looking for?

I should have thought that for £500 the level of kit and frame geometry will be much more significant than the frame material. If there's arguments in both directions then one is clearly not better than the other overall, so just go with the best spec'd and lightest bike you can for now.

I assume you mean chromoly as opposed to chrome. Even in teh 80\s chromoly was better and still is. lighter and stronger but more brittle. I had one and loved it, god that's so long ago!

Anyway, usually people buy hi tensile steel and if the kid shows any real promise upgrade to the chromoly.
