Blue Ray Player Advice

Am staying with a family member in Dublin and today my cousin was watching the new Hobbit blue ray when the ageing LG player made a screeching noise and shut down. Checked it fully and it is dead.

So I said I would get them a new player.

Now I need a bit of advice.

Can anyone recommend a Smart Blue Ray player (possible 3D as they are scouting a 3D TV).

SMART needs to be more than the usual Netflix & YouTube offering and preferably built in WiFi and Ethernet.

Experience of a particular model and why you recommend or not v useful.

Price range up to £100 (€120).

As I am taking my camera kit up into the Wicklow mountains tomorrow, I have set aside Saturday to get the player so would be grateful of advice.

The current TV is a 5 series Samsung 37".

Can't help, but I'm watching this thread with interest.

My DVD player has been in the blink for awhile,
it finally packed up the other day.
I guess me dropping it on "its nose" didn't actually help matters :D

Time for an "up grade" :)
 
We own a Samsung BD C6800 3D blu ray player and love it. Works flawlessly. Has wifi and ethernet port.
Think we paid less than £150 for it with a 2.1 speaker system from the tescot outlet on eBay.

Easy to setup and operate and has all the usual smart apps built in. Also works great when connected up to the xbox for streaming as a pass through for the sound.

I got a Panasonic 3D Bluray player with my Panasonic 50" TV and the Bluray player has been fantastic. It's played discs from all over the world even though it's a Euro region player and it's even played copied Blurays with no problem. I'm not sure of the connections as it's been so long since I set it up but it does have a digital out audio for a surround sound. It doesn't have the SMART capability as it was out before that came in but the newer versions of the player have and aren't too expensive. Great bit of kit and gives a great picture quality for 3D.

Is it multi region,a lot of discs are region free theses days, but a few blu rays are region locked :)

Worst piece of kit I ever used for Blue Ray use/media streaming ever. I bought the 320Gb with the remote

It wouldn't play ordinary DVDs and Blj Ray s led ytbn impressive. The household here is all XBox 360 fanatics!

It was just bought as a European region machine, no special region free wention on the box or anytthing but it plays everything. It certainly wasn't bought as an all region player, I paid enough for early all region dvd players so I wont pay it anymore.

Most blu ray title are region free theses days and will play on any player,but some studio are still locked to region A these do tend to be the smaller studio,if you are like me, i buy my blu rays from all over the world,mostly the US & HK you will find some films will not play on your player,unless it has been made muilt region you can usually tell because its about an £100 extra to get a true muilt region player,and they aren't sold in the big shops on the high street,they tend to be smaller dealers online :)
