Many thanks to all for your 'advice' and 'opinions'.........https://www.talkphotography.co.uk/threads/4k-uhd-tv-owners-advice-please.604893/#post-7090264

I have bit the bullet and bought a 55" 4K...PANASONIC VIERA TX55CX802B......I have to say I'm impressed.

My questions now concern the playing of Blue-ray and DVD's.

I have a Panasonic 3D HD Blue-ray/DVD player, it does not have upscaling, and a number of BR and non BR DVD's.

The BR DVD's when played on the 4K TV look brilliant and non BR DVD's slightly less so, but not by much.

Would I gain much by buying an 'upscaling' media player for my existing discs?

Would my discs in fact 'upscale' to 4K?

Are dedicated 4K discs worth buying and would I need a special media player?

I have scoured 'google' for an explanation of all this, but to no avail.

Any other advice/pearls of wisdom gratefully received.

TIA

Everything is upscale. 4K TVs always run at 4K. 1080p TVs always run at 1080. The content is either upscaled in the TV or before it arrives at the TV.

So your Blurays and DVDs are already upscaled.

When 4K becomes more popular you might find a player with a better upscaler but I wouldn't rush to find it as it will be expensive to start with.

I was looking at the 50" version the other day and was impressed, but it's always a bit difficult to tell in a shop what normal everyday TV will be like - how are you finding normal TV ?

And if you watched a DVD first (before a blu ray) would you say it's good ? and then do you see the jump when watching blu ray ?

I believe as well, the sound quality from the 802 range is quite good (in terms of new TV's anyway) - how are you finding it ?

Cheers
