Blue Planet II

Got a bit (a lot) bored with the plastic thing. Yes, it's tremendously important but isn't prime time Sunday night TV stuff. Smacks a bit too much of tub thumping.
Still a stonkingly good series. Sure to earn awards galore.
The photography is just stunning.

The plastics issue is a crisis, it should be prime time, only we can fix it by our individual actions ... who would have known that the seas were in such a state without it being made known. Anyway, onto 'Jumbo' now. :)

Now on BBC iPlayer in UHD. Its worth watching it again to see it in that that 4K loveliness :)

I strongly disagree sorry. The marine pollution issue is a global crisis which is affecting all marine life even in areas far away from human pollution sources. It will eventually (if not already) become a major issue to ourselves either through loss of food species and through ingestion of microplastic particles which have entered the food chain. If the human race doesn't start putting steps in place to make a change then the damage will be irreversible to many species. The only way to start making a change is to educate as much of the population through influential programmes such as this.

all the plastic made me a bit sad.
As a diver of many years I have been to the red sea, Malaysia, Indonesia and seen some wonderful sights.

but so much polution

It was abit over the top but I feel it has to be to get the point across...

The only problem I have with it is that the blame is a sort of aimed at 'Joe Bloggs' who are just living their lives as instructed/guided by the govenments. The giant companys/govenments are pumping the fumes and not doing anything to ban the use... that would stop it almost over night.

Look at plastic bags now they cost money no one wastes... well not in the same way anyway.

It annoys me that I would like to reduce my plastic usage and stop it from entering watercourses...however I'm not sure how I can. All food containers come in often non-recyclable plastic, anything you buy online has masses of non-recyclable plastic and the council often wont take anything other than bottles for recycling. My recycling box last week was rejected last week as we had put a bit of plastic film in it.

Like you say I think most people would happily help out..but aren't allowed to do so. The more awareness that is raised the more pressure on those in power to do something about it.

What annoys me is shops that put things into plastic containers when there is no need to, I think it was M&S that were selling 3 apples (the edible type) in a plastic tube. Why? I think just because it looked nice and gave them a sense of specialness. It was just 3 ordinary apple. They could have been sold loose and put into a brown paper bag.

To be fair to the politicians they did put the 5p on plastic bags. Hopefully they will have the courage to do something else now.

and HDR and Wider Colour Gamut. Personally, the jump to HDR is much larger than that to 4k at normal viewing distances.

We should move to the German model of bottle deposits (which I remember on UK glass bottles). You pay 1/2 a euro and there's a machine in most shops which will return the deposit. It's completely automated.

Bottles are washed and re-used rather than being converted in to new plastic products. The plastic used is thicker and more robust.

Hey @gramps
Guess what SWMBO gave me for Xmas?
The Blue Planet book.
Might not read the words; the photos are just superb.
Everything that was in the series is here.

I'm overlooking the fact that she got it at half price in Tesco: it's the only present I've been giveno_O

Mesmerising. No commentary. Just a camera on the shell recording day to day events.
Just a few on screen notes.
Eagles and cheetahs to come.
It's on again at 1.30AM!!!!
Or catch up TV.

Thanks for the heads up about this and the repeat.......I have set the pvc on BBC 4 HD channel for the 1:30am repeat :)

Bonzer.
The eagle was obviously captive in some form but it was allowed to fly totally free.
Now the cheetahs. Wish I could run that fast!

It was not obvious from the program title as to its makers being the same teams in "Planet" series'.
