Yes
Anyone advise as to what I am doing wrong.

I have been editing some pictures but after saving for web then bringing them back into CS2 they are suffering blown highlights:(

No blown highlights before I 'Saved For Web'

what settings are you using on SFW

 I find the settings o so confusing:bonk:

Any pointers to what they should be?;)

when I use save for web I use jpg med or high, or even the highest setting as you can see the image size in the optimised version, I also have the original and the optimised on screen at the same time...you edit the options in the menu on the right hand side of the screen. It does look confusing but you don't need toclick too much, it the jpeg setting you need to look at really :)

Hi Marianne.

I understand the jpeg quality settings ok:) It's just some of the hidden one's I am not too sure about.

why use the save for web option anyway? I simply use the save as option and go for about an 8 quality....maybe you have fiddled with the options and need to do a reset of the default settings in PS?

Yes maybe I have fiddled with something I shouldn't have:)

Will try the 'Save As' when I get chance.

Could the problem be editing a 16 bit image then changing it to 8 bit?

I've said it before...I use Matts TPFAction, saves on all this hassle.

nope...I do that all the time....remember to reset your undoes to 50 when you reset PS ;)

Thanks for the help Marianne I will give it ago later...........and will look for Matts TPF action you speak of Ken;)

i wondered if you had it saving as something other than Jpeg, but seems not, so dunno...lol

Well I have tried 'Save for Web' and Save As' but still the same result.

Seems to happen slightly when image is resized then again when changed to 8 bit.

It's beat me at the moment:thinking:

is the colour profile changing or something silly like that?

Not sure whats happening Matty:shrug:

Just before I 'Save for Web' I check highlights via Levels;

LEVELS>Hold down ALT and move the R/H slider.

This shows no highlights but after saving for the web and bringing the image back into CS the image shows highlights when checking in LEVELS>ALT again.

is the image RGB in Image>mode>RGB?

hmmmmmmmmmmmm

P-E, can you do a screen grab of your settings so we can have a look?

I have had a look in tutorials for Matts TPFaction mentioned above, but cant find it, can someone point me in the right direction please:D

Of course I can mate......just tell me which setting you want to see.

Matts TPF action is on here in a thread but the link takes you somewhere else:shrug: ......but I think this is what the action was made from and it's what I use.

http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=2406&highlight=resizing

Since looking further into my problem with the highlights it appears to me that there is a slight shift to the right in the Histogram when;

(A) Image is resized for the Web.
(B) When an image is changed from 16bit to 8bit.
(C) When image is actually saved for web.......beit 'Saved As' or 'Saved For'.

So as the image I was working on was already close to having blown highlights doing the above created my problem imo........I stand to be corrected;)

I no longer use STW feature but have my own action which roughly suits forum use and includes a "save as" line.

I do find though that extreme dark and bright areas can be adversely affected no matter what process I use.

Not much help there but I thought it was just a side-effect of using a more "lossy" format.

I just reduce my longest edge to 800 pixels through image size, do a save-as, jpeg, then move the slider until you get 130k-140k that way once its saved if you do a file info it should be just under 160k limit. HTH.
