I said I'd do a relative a print of their apple tree in the back garden. I made a start with this one, but I don't like the composition. How can I improve it. Eventually it will be a canvas print about 45cm square (roughly). It's been a bit windy today so I've struggled a bit. I might have another go later or tomorrow.

Thanks and yes, good point. It's a pretty grey day today so probably not ideal. I wanted to get out and shoot something though as I've been a bit unmotivated. Oh well, I'll try again if the sun comes out at some point!

I've taken another one and at least cropped it to the right shape I want. Hopefully I'll get another in better light.

.. by thinking about what it is you don't like about the composition..

(my own view is that the void top right is weakening the shot, if you'd angled down and left and filled the frame along the TL-BR diagonal you'd have had a better composition)

And remember there are at least two ways to approach this..
  • You can chase down the perfect blossom in the perfect position with the perfect background and wait for the perfect light; or
  • You can get a pair of secateurs, take the blossom to the background and think about introducing better light at a time convenient to you.
